Has anyone on here done this? Just want to do some research before starting it. Two main things I assume will be crossmember and driveshaft. Any other snags that come up?

I need to ditch the T5 and go auto to work better with the s/c.

Not sure what my T5 is worth, It's in need of some work. I have to double clutch to 5th gear or it grinds. It has a FRPP clutch/PP. I'd probably trade it for a nice flexplate and aftermarket shifter.

The driveshaft is the same length. If you check the Ford racing aluminum driveshafts they fit T-5/AOD/C-4 with the same part number.Crossmember will work but you will have to grind off the spot welds holding the crossmember to the tubes on either side and slide it to where you need it and re-weld.Mount is the same for a T-5 and C-4.Some people keep the 5-speed pedal assembly and just tie up the clutch pedal to make things easier but you can probably get some of your money back by selling your old parts.

Excellent info, thanks so much. I'm certain I'll have to switch out yolks on my alum. driveshaft, correct? Are you a welder too? Just wondering because of your avatar.

I don't think the swap is worth doing!
Ok, go ahead and explain. I'm pretty sure the car will be faster more consistantly with a C4.

I'm with you. I like racing with an Auto better. I'll probably blow up my AOD soon and step up to a built C4. My AOD cost $2700 and can only handle 500hp. A good c4 is cheaper and a lot more durable.

I think that you can just turn the crossmember around. I dont believe that you have to weld it. They have holes for all of the possible trannies. Back before the AOD they had a c4 in the stangs so it should fit. Mine does and I dont see any evidence of rewelding.

Did a 3 on the tree to C6 conversion in a 150 same deal. Turn the xmember around and good to go.

The Ford Racing driveshaft comes with a transmision yoke so a T-5 and C-4 must use the same diameter and spline count of yoke. The only difference would be the length of the yoke so check to see if it bottoms out or ask around to see how long a C-4 yoke should be.I replaced the 4 cyl/C-3 transmisson in my car with a 351c/C-4.The driveshaft I used was from a T-5 car but I added the yoke as it didn't come with one.I tried using an OEM style shifter but found that the detents in the shifter didn't match the ones on the transmission and ended up going with an aftermarket shifter.I found Bulkpart.com to be a good source of parts for the do-it-yourselfer http://www.bulkpart.com/ and here is a link to some good C-4 info that explains the case differences http://www.mustangcentral.net/tech/c4.html
