Alright, just put a new clutch in my sn95. It had the stock clutch in it before. I picked it up for the first time today. When I downshift from fourth to third and have a little speed, it makes a loud banging noise. Is that something I can expect from a racing clutch, does it need to break in or what? It didn't sound too normal to me. Any feedback for an auto guy going manual for the first time would be appreciated.

Take it easy on the car for 500 miles...not highway driving, the clutch has to be getting some friction on it so it can break in a little bit...no racing either.

As far as the banging noise: nope, not normal. As a matter of fact, probably bad. Any idea where the sound is coming from? You're downshifting, and that puts a load on the suspension that is atypical. Any chance it's from the chassis?
as said, take it real easy on it (which means dont rip on it, but do be diverse). i would not be downshifting on it for now. are you sure it is adjusted correctly?
if it only makes the noise in one downshift sequence (i.e. does not do it when downshifting from 5th to 4th or thrid to second), i would not be lookin at the clutch itself initially.

Thanks for the info, guys. I've been driving it more and it hasn't done it lately. I have been taking it easy on it, but the new pedal feel is a lot less forgiving, I probably was just backing off the pedal too hard to start with. Whatever it was, it scared the hell out of me. If it does it again, I'm taking it back to the shop and having them look at it.
hey now, if a shop did the install, i would go back at the first sign of anything weird. many shops actually endorse you coming back shortly after the install to readjust the clutch. are you sure the tranny fluid level is up to full and that the correct fluid was used to top it off if they had to?

Hi guys, thanks for the clutch help. The clutch seems to be fine, I haven't had problems with it slipping or anything. I do have a strange rattle coming out of my tranny that started a week ago. It gets louder and more persistent as I give the car gas. At first, I thought it was a heat shield rattling or maybe a cat or the exhaust pipe. I'm probably going to have them look at it.
