after weeks of debating if i were capable of installing my gears myself. I decided that I did not have the time or the tools to do this. so I took all my parts down the a local shop, and had them install the gears, new bearings, and rebuild the trak-loc (I supplied all the parts). costed me about 290bucks out the door and was done in about 3 hours. after properly breaking them I finally got to really test them out. I went form 2.73's to 4.10. so I thought it would be difficult to get used to. to my surprise there where very drivable, and the car pulls like hell all the way up to 5th gear. my second gear now is actually lower then my old first gear with the 2.73. so I have no problem starting in 2nd when driving around town. the car revs at almost exactly 2500rpm in 5th at 65mph. this is a big difference from 1400rpms at 65mph with the 2.73's. also at 2500rpm's in a vert with an o/r H, dronemasters, and side exhaust, its a little hard to carry a conversation in the car. Other then that, I am very pleased with the gears, and do not regret them at all. in-fact If I where to do this all over again knowing the 4.10's where this drivable, I would have considered 4.30's.
btw, if anyone is interested in a set of 2.73's pm me. although they may not be the best for performance, I was able to pull of an avg of 27mpg driving from San Francisco to LA.

Where did you get them installed at? I'm looking for a shop to install mine once I get my gears. I live in SJ.

Thanks!

I got them put in at rearend specialties in santa clara. almost half the stores I called when I was getting quotes, recommended them to me

I'm very surprised at the difference in the rpm's between the 2.73's and 4.10's. You've changed your gear ratio by 34% which changes your rpm's by 34%. So, at 65mph your rpm's should by around 1876. Just wondering if your speedo is correct. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Glad to see that you are enjoying the 4.10's. I'm looking at them myself. Pearl02.

I never recorded the rpms at 65 with the 2.73's so i was only relaying on memory. I used the gear calculator on corral.net, and this is what i got

Corral RPM / SPEED / GEAR Calculator
Engine RPM: 1534.9729059336
Vehicle Speed: 65
Read End Gear: 2.73

Corral RPM / SPEED / GEAR Calculator
Engine RPM: 2428.28191185079
Vehicle Speed: 65
Read End Gear: 4.10

yeah, the hole in the wall shops are always the best deal. I'm thinking about going up to the track jan 2, as long as it doesn't rain. cant wait to get some new #'s

I figure I've increased my rpms at 70 mph by only 250 rpm or so since installing my 4.10's. Now I spin at about 2700 rpm at 70 mph in overdrive.

Auto with 4.10's
