I just bought a 2004 Mustang GT. I got it used from the sales manager here at my dealership. When I went to get my insurance my agent asked if the car was a GT or a Mach 1. She said she could not tell from the VIN as the 8th and 9th letters are XX, 1FAFP42XX4F******

Q; can someone break down the Vin code for me or tell me where to get it?

Q; How can I tell if the car as the 4 valve or 2 valve motor.

I am thinking that the car was ordered with the 4 valve as there is nothing that I can tell has been modified, and it was ordered by the sales manager.

I know that this car runs really good, as I was racing a Vet the other day and stayed with him the entire way. I was told by one of the guys at the dealership that this car did dyno out at 283 rwhp. That number sounds a little high for a 2 valve car, but the way she runs sure feels like it.

Any thought's?
Thanks,
Ronnie

go out and look at your motor. if the heads look like they are a foot wide and the spark plug coils are in the middle of the head like on a hemi motor then its a 4valve motor. there should also be something that says "32V" on it. there were no GT's from the factory that were 32v motors. only the mach 1 and cobras were 32v. and yes the insurance company can tell what the car is by the VIN. you couldnt order a GT with a 32v. it was probably modified by the previus owner.
