#1 - Lower Control Arms. This is a must, you can add all the power mods you want and it won't mean squat when you're wheel-hoppin down the drag strip. Even without other mods, LCA's will probably shave a good .2 off your quarter time.

#2 - I'd probably get a nice axle-back exhaust. Slightly improved performance, and great sound (and still within your budget).

#3 - I'd consider doing pullies. Probably the best bang for your buck power-wise.

#4 - At this point, you'll probably need some more drag friendly tires, at least in the rear. Some good drag radials are going to run you about $170 a pop.

CAI is defiantely a great mod for the '05 Stangs. The problem though, is that you MUST get a tune after getting a CAI, so once it's all said and done, the thing is going to cost you at least $500 (flash tuning devices are about $400, and a custom tune is going to run about the same). If you can still afford it, go for it. I personally am going to wait until I have a few other mods though, then get the CAI last, and get a custom tune. You'll have to pay for the tune in the end, but then your car will be running at max performance.

JMS Chips has some good packages for less then 1K. I haven't used them yet since my stang isn't here, but you might get some feedback from others. The site is http://www.jmschip.com/bullet.php

If it were me, I'd go with the Package #2, and then get LCA's and better tires and you'd be set. Some good sounding exhaust isn't still going to be within his budget at that point though, but that isn't as important to everyone.

I'm against getting gears for some reason, makes me think I'm gonna destroy my back end. They're really not too expensive though.

I wouldnt waste your money on pullies, especially for $250, I havent seen much that will even get you more than 5hp. Thats pretty cheap IMO.

For $150 you can buy the JLT CAI and for another $350 you can have it tuned properly with the Diablo Sport GT. This should get you about 30 more hp and an equal amount of torque at the wheels.

Question

Question about tuning............
do you have to take your ECU out and mail it to the programmer of your choice and wait...........
or do they ship you a new one thats been flashed to your specs?

You can flash the Computer yourself at home with a flash tune tool, no need to remove anything.
