thanks! :nice:

i would like to go bigger than 4.6 if possible however i dont want to be moving crap around in my bay...id LIKe it to be iron since they should be stronger than aluminum...then again the aluminum 4.6 can take a lot in our cars cant it?....i guess it could be aluminum yes

its really not worth it to build your own is it...its just the pride you get out of it knowing that whats moving your car is something you built....everything adds up to the cost of an already made engine....damit :(.....i may be looking in the wrong places but this sucks lol

Save somemoney and replace the internals. The stock 4.6 block can take a lot of abuse. I've read anywhere from 1000 to 1200 hp, so I think you're safe with the block. Increase the internals and the crank to forged and call it a day. Spend the cash you save from buying a new block for cams and a blower and then the suspension, tranny, chassis and rear end to handle the power.

thanks for the insight!...i really want headers and cams:drool:...im really pissed off tho...a guy near where i live is selling his 04 cobra engine complete with kenne bell (dynoed at supposedly 725HP) and selling it for 7k cuz hes getting a different engine....and i dont have 7k :(

No prob. :nice: What the hell could that guy be getting to replace that beast of an engine?...and yeah at 7k that is a freakin steal...unless of course something's wrong with it.

dude, you can get a brand new 4.6 iron block for under $400. what i plan on doing is buying a new block and build it up outside the car. that way the car will be down for a weekend instead of weeks on end.

Hey bdcardinal. I thought he meant he wanted a race or aftermarket block, and those can fetch up to 3K. But yeah if you want to buy a new stock 4.6 Iron block, then yeah go for it. Saw them online for between $340-400.

btw, how many main caps does the stock 4.6 have...2 or 4?

iron blocks are 4 bolt main. they have 2 cross bolts and 2 bolts in the normal location. there are also 2 locating lugs or jackscrews depending on if its a romeo or a windsor made block. the aluminum blocks are 6 bolt main. with 2 cross bolts.

If you want Mod Motor and Bigger than 4.6, why not go with a 5.4? Not that more expensive to build over a 4.6. The rods and valve train is more expensive, but thats it.

Only issue I would guess would be weight of the bigger engine. How about the mounts and exhaust manifolds, does the 99-04 engine bay have the room for them?...I'm guessing yes, but not sure. But yeah a 5.4 with forged internals and then blown to 10+lbs of boost would be super damn sweet. But wouldn't it just easier and cheaper to get a 5.4 complete engine from a wrecked Navigator or something?

The 5.4 fits but its a tight fit.

hey guys thanks for all of your replies! im really considering the 4.6 block which i can get for 325 on ford website if i do wind up building an engine theyre cheap and can take a beating....i just dont know if its worth the money to build my own if i can get a built engine for the same price and same power....
