What makes the car louder....

headers midpipe and catback change the volume and tone, came will only change the output into the exhaust. think of the exhaust as a trumpet, and the cams are the alternate version of the 2v song.

kinda cheesy explanation... but its hard to describe how cams effect the sound of the car.

headers, off road pipe and cat back will effect the volume of the sound.

a cam is not for changing sound. it is a device for timming the valve events. only change a cam to increase performance. sure it will sound different with a cam and maybe a little louder but that is not the way too make you car louder.

OT--when I was a kid we used to camp in the fields in Burke and gig frogs--that was a long time ago before it was developed.

Sort of on topic: on another site I read that there is a bill pending in Illinois that would make aftermarket exhaust systems illegal if they increased the noise level even 1 decibel. Sadly, this may be the future. Does anyone have any input on this?

haha, cool you used to live in Burke. Laws for exhaust have been passed in VA I think, I'll found out when I get my emissions done I guess..Hopefully I won't get :owned: for my SLP lol.

but too increase the volume get some longtubes and a off road x.

hes looking for more sound at idle...i dont have first hand experience on them but people on here have said that longtubes actually make ur car osund quieter at idle....thats not what you want

Headers. My car was loud at idle with the magnapacks and the bassani mid pipe w. cats...but the first time I turned my car on with the headers...it was unbelievable. The car rumbled noticably louder, and actually had alittle of that muscle car "shimmy" to it at idle. Very cool.
