Track Advice?

Mods are in sig, just need some opinions from those out there that have track experience. My best eta time so far has been a loudy 14.7. I know my 60ft time is bad, 2.4 tonight. I know Im spinning first gear like crazy, so what rpm should I be launching at? Thanks guys, I know practice makes perfect.

How are u launching now? Are you dumping the clutch from a certain rpm or feathering it? What are your trap speeds like? What I do is revv up to about 2500 then feather the clutch out. Like you said yourself practice makes perfect just got to learn how fast/slow to feather the clutch and how much gas to give it. Some nice tires wouldn't hurt either :nice:

Last night I was launching anywhere from 2k-3k. I try feathering the clutch, figures If I just dump it, I'd spin as well. Im trapping at 95mph. I am running Nitto 555's...

Ok first off dont do a burnout on street tires, it does nothing other than wear your tires out quicker. 95 is a really really low trap speed for your mods. You should be trapping up around 98 or 99. I think the only thing u can really do is get better tires, and more suspension and practice. Like I said I launch at around 2500 feathering the clutch. 24 PSI is a pretty good amount maybe you could go a bit lower but it really wont make much of a difference. Are you powershifting? Seems like you must be doing something wrong going down the track also because your trap speed isnt affected that much by your 60' times.

Agreed with Slick96. Burn out's on street tires do nothing but make them greasy and wear them out. Don't follow suit of all the other clueless guys at the track who burn them until their car is engulfed in smoke, because that's what they've seen in the movies or because their buddies tell them that's what's got to be done. You want to spin the for a couple of seconds (literally) to clean the crud off of them, no more. Burning them like you would had they been a Drag Radial or a full on Slick is going to hurt your 60ft times, not help.

Don't vary the rear tire pressure much beyond normal (26lbs-32lbs is best) and pump up your front tires to 40psi....then get practicing.

gearbanger what track do you go to in canda?
The last couple of strips I've gone to were in Northern Ontario. Not necessarily tracks per say, but more air strips that were shut down for a couple of weekend Racing events (North Bay, Elliot Lake). If I'm really looking to run my times, I'll take a 5-hour trek Down South to Grand Bend http://www.grandbendmotorplex.com/ …but I haven’t had the opportunity to do it yet this summer. :(

Ya, Im basicially just spinning them for 2 secs, thats all. I think Im messing up the launch. Trying to think back, I rev to 2-3k, and drop the clutch and slam the gas, and I just spin. Gonna try less of that and try more traction. Im slamming those gears, shifting at 5500, etc...

Wow yea thats your problem. If you slam your gas from idle you will spin for along time let alone from 2-3K. Like I said just practive revving up to around 2500 or so and feathering the clutch out. Its not a bad thing to chirp the tires a bit thats a good sign you just dont want to sit there and spin forever. Bogging the car is just as bad as spinning. Still a 2.4 60' and running 14.7 @ 95 doesnt make sense your trap speed should still be higher than 95. 5500 is the right place to shift so I'm not quite sure what is going on maybe somebody else has an idea.

yea you could run 13.6s with those mods i would think since thats what im running.

Gearbanger have you ever heard of san air or naiperville dragstrip. They're in quebec i think, but thats where i usually go. I dont know how far that is from you tho
