Here to make you auto guys feel better

Another vote for the Auto. Yeah, they may not be as fast in stock trim, nor in some cases are they as fun to drive. But on those lazy @$$ days, or when I just get back from the gym and don't feel like shifting....it's nice having the option to just put it in "D".

And although as mentioned before they're no street sweeper in stock trim.....finesse them a little with a looser converter, the J-mod and a trans cooler and you'll whip 5-gears all day long and still never have to worry about walking home after a hard day at the track. :nice:

..... but my only complaint is that you have to spend extra money and do more stuff to an auto to make it keep up with or even beat a standard. I had a Predator on my GT and had the shift firmness and all that set as high as it would go and it shifted a lot harder but made no real difference in getting more power to the ground. I realize with an actual shift kit and stall it might have been a closer race between me and my friend, but as it was he spanked my ass like I was driving a V6 pony...... Now that I have 16 more valves and two more cams things are quite the opposite now....

It cost more money for those 16 extra valves as it would for a converter and valve body mods on the auto. Sounds to me like you're speaking about something you've not yet experienced .... i.e, a high stalled auto in a drag race . It matters not if you have a 2v or 4v engine, the difference is big. If you have more HP the difference will be biggER.

It is normal if a high stalled auto is as quick or quicker than a manual with more wheel hp but like flywheel hp. Most people cannot work a stick well enough to negate the difference.

Yes, that's true a whole new engine would obviously cost more than a stall and valve body mods as you mentioned. But it wasn't as if I had a choice on that..... an ambulance smashed into my GT at like 40 MPH, easily totalling it out, but thats a different story. I got enough money out of it to get myself a Mach..... it wasn't as if I just decided to spend some extra money on a new car instead of fixing up my auto....

I was just saying that for a stock auto to be able to beat a stock manual, several things extra have to be done to the auto before it can do that. Cause yeah, stock vs. stock, manuals kill autos unless the guy driving the manual really doesn't know how to drive, which certainly happens often

autos are boring for daily driving but damned if they don't kick ass on a 1/4 mile, when properly set up.

but some of us like turning while racing, so we are happy with our manuals ;)
