Ok, here is my deal. I am an elementary school teacher, and as we stand we don't make jack for cash. However I've set aside some money and I want to but a good H/C/I setup on my 92 Notch. At first I wanted to go with the Trickflow, but at the moment cannot afford it.

So i was thinking about a GT40 head setup. Id' like to get into the 12's. I used the search function and found that people seem to like kits because it takes the guessing work out of buying the parts.

Which leads me to my question. What's a good Cam and Intake setup for a car with GT40p or GT40 heads? I've heard the Typhoon is good, and the X303 Cam is also pretty good.

I would like 280 - 300 RWHP

The car has the following at the moment

Stock heads
Stock Cam
Stock Intake
UPR Cold Air
FRPP Shortie header Knock Offs (Ceramic Coated)
UPR X-Pipe (catless)
Mac Catback
Ford 3.73 Gears
Underdrive Pullies
and bumped timing.

So what do you think, help me out here or at least guid me in the right direction.

Dont go with the x303 .. go with something like a comp cams xe270! GT40p heads.. Cobra intake.. xe270 cam will get you 12s with the other supporting mods. Good luck!

keep in mind if you go with the P heads, you'll need different headers...the GT-40's can be had for a decent price though. the typhoon intake is good if you're on a restrictive budget, but it may require some minor port work from what i've read...nothing a dremel, some sanding bits and some patience can't fix though...profiled just like the RPM though

the cam...honestly, I'd probably go with a split pattern like the comp xe270, or Lunati 51014...if nothing else you could go with one of those cams, and upgrade to better heads later...

best of luck to you!

you can get 12's w/ the GT40 Y heads, a letter cam (b or e or f)303, and a cobra or gt40 intake, and if you have the right suspension. good luck w/ your decision -

A combo I've seen at the track....

Typhoon Intake (same as edelbrock i think)
F303 cam
Edelbrock performer RPM heads w/ 1.6 roller rockers -

The guy hit 12.90 on street tires, and he had no suspension work.... needless to say, i bought almost the same combo a few weeks later lol

doesn't sound like it's worth it to me...yuck

if your car runs fine right now, just save up some funds and spring for a good setup...you'll feel better about it in the long run, instead of letting the money burn a hole in your pocket right now, and then not be happy with what you have...

I recommend going with Edelbrock... All the hype right now is surrounding AFR and TrickFlow you can get a nice heads and intake package for cheap... or just buy used... inspect them if they are good they are good... Thats wut I did. If your looking for a streetable machine Id say go with edelbrock RPM 190's edelbrock perf intake and the crane energy 2030.. good solid mid range cam got me in the mid twelves and has a nice idle... good luck and dont be afraid to buy used...

I would look into getting some thumper heads. Im actually probably going to buy a set within the next month or 2, http://www.thumperoforangepark.com/

Hey those guys are pretty good! I like the pricing. the #3 package is really starting to interest me. Has anyone else on here used these guys? are E7's the same heads we have on our cars from the factory? Is there any reason I shouldnt consider these guys...

no reason why you shouldn't consider it, you actually SHOULD consider it if you gotta have a h/c/i like right now lol they are cheap, and they've done a ton of porting and work on E7 heads (yes they are the factory heads) and you will get a lot of bang for your buck, but you still have the weight of an E7 head, and thats another place the AL heads come in handy... but have you considered emissions?? Do you have to pass it where you live, or do you know someone w/ stickers?? Just curious, cuz the Performer RPM 1.90's don't pass emissions, the regular performers are 50 state legal though..

If AFR and Trickflow heads are out of the question then buy a set of Edelbrock Performer heads. They flow better then the GT40 and are about the same price. I was trying to pick between the two last summer and while talking with a FRPP tech he admitted to me that I would need porting to the GT40 heads to flow anywhere close to the Edelbrocks. The Performer heads are emission legal, the RPM heads are not, yet they are the same casting number. There's a lot of cams that will work so do some homework. I run a Crane 2040 which is basicly an E-cam. However, the first thing you should do is throw in a set of 3.73 gears. With the Ede. heads, the right cam and induction, and 3.73's, you should be right around the 12 second area.
As my avitar says, I ran a 13.2 best, but thats with a carb and 3.55 gears. I think with 3.73's I would have seen 12.9's.

No emissions in my area. I live in Miami, FL. I already have 3.73 gears. That thumper kit is right in my ball park. THen id just need to save for the TB and Upper and Lower Intake. Im not looking for a 11 sec car a nice 12.5 sec car would be nice to drive around in :)

Wow that's awfuly nice of you! :hail2: Im not ready to buy just yet. I was looking at December when I get my tutoring check in. I picked up a side gig at my school where I tutor for the FCAT. So I need to wait for that cash to roll in before I buy. But i've gotta tell you that i've really got my eyes set on that thumper set with the cam and chain.

I've been meaning to ask you what intake you recommend for Head and Cam setup you offer? Are youre budget 12's for cars with CARBS? or EFI cars as well?

Thanks again for the great offer im really looking into it.

Here's a low quality picture of my car. Taken infront of my house a few weeks back. I really need new pics.

paul what track was that at? sounds like my car with its old setup, and i think i remember you living in jersey.. if that car was at atco that might have been me

anyway.. i'd say definatly look into thumpers heads.. back when i was trying to decide on a set of heads i did alot of research on thumpers heads, and i heard nothing but great feedback.. everyone that had them loved them because of their great performance on the street.. the tourque numbers that people were seeing from them were increbable, considering they are stock ported heads, and tourque is what is going to make a daily driver car alot of fun

Morales.. Hey what about the $10 BILLION that went to our schools from the LOTTO!!!??? LOL LOL LOL ( yeah I wont go there.. that is DEEP BS!! IMO)

Carb and IFE !! Cobra/GT40 { like in the junkyards off Explores} Typhoon ect.. 3.73s 5 speeds.. email me and I will send some attachments cool?? [email protected]
