yesterday i went to a local muffler shop and got straight pipes. Well, its really just maybe a stock width piece of 18 inch pipe. it sounds loud but it can satisfy my urge to go loader. well it was only 80 bucks. but what are the pros and cons? im guessin it releaves back pressure but any other imput. should i get a cat back or leave the pipes with maybe a new x-pipe?

No mufflers sounds like A$$ on Mustangs. Another Deputy I work with did it and it sounded just like a rusted 76 Ford pick up. Very Hilljack. Worst than glass packs. Didnt sound like a clean Mustang anymore.

I still haven't had a single person pass me pointing and laughing or rolling their eyes at me for having an O/R midpipe and glasspacks. But I do get dropped jaws with thumbs up...or great big grins after they just said "sweeeeeeeeeeet". And I hope it sounds even less "clean" after I install the 9psi KB that I ordered. :D

I have no mufflers too. Sounds decent. Haven't had any police give me crap about it.

I can't see anything wrong with it, most of the backpressure would be supplied by the 4 cats wouldn't it?

Do you have an audio clip? Id like to hear that.. I've forgotten what it sounds like. I had dumped packs for a little while, I agree. They sound evil and raw as all hell..Nowhere near the 'refined' sound of a flowmaster or borla, etc.

But anyway, mufflers don't do so much for volume. If you want volume, remove the cats. It makes a dramatic difference and bumps your car into that special class of 'badass sounding' mustangs. :nice:

When I installed my O/R midpipe I ran around town without any mufflers for a while, let me just say it was way too loud for me. It sounded mean as hell, but not worth the daily headache for me.

Oh, and to list a disadvantage...if you run with no cats, you lose back pressure, which results in less low-end torque. IMO it's worth the sound. If you want to be able to switch between no mufflers and mufflers very easily, just get cutouts.
