So I walk back from the mail box all "happy, happy, joy, joy" with my new editions of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords and Mustang Enthusiast in my hands; sit back to enjoy a good read and by the end of the afternoon I am finally annoyed enough with Ford to actually submit a thread.

I haven't seen it in the other threads (especially the "What would you like to see in a BOSS S197") and its NOT earth shattering by any stretch of the imagination but here it is and certainly feel free to flame this thread if you feel otherwise.

Mustang Enthusiast, January 2006 edition, page 10 great pic of the 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 Convertible with none other than the man himself, Carroll, leaning aganst the front right fender of a Rio Red - - - see anything wrong with this picture ?

Muscle Mustangs, December 2005 edition, page 60 again great pic of a Cervini's Tuner model tearing up some rubber - - - see anything wrong with this picture ?

Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE my screaming yellow '05 GT, in fact I was the first to repost my pics after the great fall of the StangNet server.

BUT THERE IS ALWAYS ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT.

I know you're all saying to yourselves: "Will this idiot ever get to his point ?" - - - well here it is:

Dear Ford:

Since I know that you actually monitor this website for consumer feedback please feel free to address this minor gripe (pet peeve) in future editions of the S197.

With all the advancements in technology can't we finally do away with the traditional radio antenna ?

I mean really, my Dad's Lincoln had an antenna embedded in the windshield over 25 years ago. And I know you'll say its a cost cutting measure, but I've got to tell you - - - If somebody ponies up the bucks for a GT500 I would sure hope that the stereo would not necessitate the need for that ugly contraption that has been stuck on the front fender since who knows when.

People are a little more savy these days, (and while my GT only comes with a base system since I'm not an audiophile and would rather listen to an exhaust note any day) and it would seem that the proliferation of stuff like direct input from their IPODs and stacked cd changers would pretty much regulate the "front fender mounted radio antenna" to the proverbial scrap heap.

Yeah, I know - - - if it bothers me that much then I should shave the fender and be done with it - - - but really can't Ford do better from the factory ?
At least on the yet to be released upper $$$$ SVT/BOSS/MACH/SHELBY models ?

Thanks for listening to me gripe,
GottaBeRed

Like I said, nothing as earth shattering as suggesting engine combos for future models.
That's for other threads to tackle.
But Ford has got to sweat the small stuff every once in a while; and hearing from its loyal customer base is a valuable source of information for the designers and engineers.

If anyone cares to add their thoughts and/or ideas PLEASE feel free to add your two cents worth.

Good idea...

Dear Ford,

Not all Mustangs are sold and see duty only in warmer climates. Please consider offering such items as heated seats and mirrors. And yes - possibly even coated defrosting windshields such as those offered in some of your other vehicles.

I can think of a lot of other things that would be nice or handy, but these items are essential in northern climates and in some cases could even save lives.

Thank you.

Things I would have liked to see as options:

Autodimming rearview mirror
Factory installed satellite radio

And I know I only have the lowly V6, but offering a 200+ horse car without even the option of a LSD is wrong.:notnice:

Contrary to all of the "Hype" from Ford and the Car Rags, the 2005's weren't all that revolutionary ... and no quantum leap into the future. In fact the car is pretty cheap to make, as witnessed by the MSRP.

Part of what makes it that way is/was Ford's decision to stay with parts-bin, off-the-shelf technologies. And the fact they they stayed inside the evelope is what makes the car both attractive (to some) AND affordable.

That's the Mustang's true legacy. The 1st Mustang was just a dolled-up Falcon with a nice interior ...
do you remember?

heated seats would be awesome. thank god both our aurora and magnum have those, so those will be the winter cars, but god only knows these cars could use them. I also like the idea of an antenna built into the window. My Magnum's antenna is built into the rear window. Obviously, this isn't a luxury car, it's a "sports" car, or whatever you wanna call it, but if they can pony up for leather to make it luxurious enough, they could come up with those things. Oh well, guess my shorty antenna will have to do.

They really need Foose there. Everytime he goes after a car, the things he first pays attention to, the things he sees in his 1st 30 seconds with the cars, are things like antennas, bumpers, mirrors, etc...

You people are a bunch of sissys.

I dont want heated mirrors. I dont want heated seats. If I did I would have bought a caddy. I want a pony car. I got a pony car. It is not the cheapest thing around, but the money was spent in areas it should have been, not the "girly man" areas mentioned above.
And the mustang is not cutting edge technology as pointed out beforehand. It is however lightyears ahead of any previous model.

And yes, I am from FL, but I lived in MT for 2 1/2 years so I know what cold is, and those things arent required.

THe whip antenna also adds to the retro pony car look.

Remember 5 years ago when cars did not have heated seat and autodimming mirrors and fancy film on windshield and etc, etc, etc????

What did we all do 6 years ago?

My Mustang has Manual steering, manual drum brakes, lap belts, no air bags, 2 speed wipers, no sound deadening, no head rests, no traction control, 3 forward gears, manual door locks, manual cranking windows, and seats that have one option for movement (forwards or backwards) and I love that thing.

Satellite radio??? Try AM with 1 speaker in the whole damned car!

500 different options for dash colors???? I am lucky to see the dash in the dark in my 65 and I could care less.

No IRS option???? What is IRS? 2 sets of leaf springs, 2 shocks and a panhard bar are all I need.

Delete the radio antenna? You are implying that you are listening to the radio in the first place. Evan with my radio turned all the way up, I can not hear it over the engine and exhaust.

Sissies.

Hey - If you guys don't want the options then don't buy them...

I can't help but wonder why you would even consider an S197. With all those creature comforts like PS/PB/PW/AC... Not to mention safety things like side air bags (optional) front air bags, ABS, side intrusion beams in the doors, rollover protection in the A-Pilars, etc...
If you want to live in the past - spend your money on a 64-73 Stang and leave us to enjoy some of the fruits of our labor and technology available today..

It's all about individuals and their particular tastes and desires... Henry Ford lost a lot of money because of his lack of respect for individual tastes when he said this "You can buy a Ford Model-A in any color you like - as long as it's black"...
Chevrolet, Dodge Brothers, Chrysler, Packard - they were hot on his heels and took many sales away...

So Go ahead and remove all those creature comforts and safety items from your S197's - all in the name of being "A MAN".... :D

:stupid: Yea, the mustang is a sports car, not a luxury car. Those heated seats, heated mirrors, all that other stuff? It just adds weight and complexity to the car. It would drive up costs too. Why not just clip your antennae shorter? That's what I did on my 94, looks great.

FWIW, I could do without power windows, power seats, power locks, air bags (although those are required) and all the fancy stuff, lol.

I just want the darn wiring harness in my dash so I can give more money to Ford for more FACTORY options on my car. I'm willing to pay $400 for the upgraded guage cluster that comes with the $450 IUP (without the rest of the IUP!)

I like how this entire thread started with a complaint on the antennae.
An auto-dimming mirror is just what I need, because who cares what's going on to the front/right of my car, which is how much those damn things block your sight.
Heated mirrors? Meh, I'll give you that one.
Heated seats? No. Hell, I don't like the fact that the seat is powered. God knows no one else is driving my pony, so I adjust it about once every three months, after searching for loose change.
I have a trunk opener on my key fob, which is always a lot closer to me than the glove box. Oh, the Passat has a climate-controlled glove box, why not the mustang?! Cause you don't go out to the desert to buy maki rolls, that's why!!
The antennae, I can see your point. My car's black, so I never see it anyway. I think this was more for retro styling.

But people, there's a beautiful thing out there, and it's called Aftermarket! No, this isn't a term coined by Honda; it allows you to create exactly what you want with the beautiful blank canvas you bought from Ford. Unfortunately, my F/R fender was damaged, so I'll have to replace it. Weld up the antennae hole, wire up a window antennae, and booyah. They also sell heated seat covers at Walmart. You just bought a Mustang; that should be the first step. What you do with it after that is what REALLY makes it yours...

I'm not asking for the world here - - - just a clean fender line.

I'm wasn't looking for this thread to deteriorate into a "I'm more of a guy because I can live with less creature comforts and anyone whom doesn't have my point of view is a sissy" thread; nor did I aim for the "I'm a better Mustang enthusiast because I'm a purist and I still like bias ply tires" thread; nor was I suggesting that everyone should be forced to give up his/her right to listen to AM radio on junky paper speakers (we love Tyler for keeping the faith - - all props to anyone for being able to live with a vintage model as a daily driver).

It just seems to me that since Ford has deemed the Mustang to fill more than several market niches it could at least get rid of the "front fender mounted radio antenna" in favor of using twenty year old technology to put the antenna in the windshield so it doesn't detract from the clean lines of the car - - - at least on those future specialty models whose price tag and target audience might suggest more refinement and panache.

Yes there are Cobra R versions from the factory with a radio delete; and yes, horsepower fanatics and racers can live without creature comforts because they live by a weight reduction credo, but I can't remember the last time I saw a Cobra R without a radio/stereo/maxed out system - - - and they didn't have an ugly antenna stuck on the front fender.

I would hate to hazzard a guess at Ford's R&D budget, and I realize that more than a significant amount is spent on vastly more worthwhile things than some idiot venting about his precious fenderline and a radio antenna, but c'mon Ford step back and take a look and a listen to all the REALLY LITTLE stuff that seems to bother us - - - it couldn't hurt.

I hear where you're coming from, GottaBe. I wasn't attacking anyone in particular. But because it aims to fill different niches, it's hard to make radical (and even not so radical) changes in design. If it ain't broke... Plus, the Mustang has no direct competition, and an antennae won't stop someone from buying a stang.

In short, whatever gripes we have, we can modify it to our liking ourselves. Ford did supply us with the most important feature, though: a solid foundation.

If you don't want heated seats/mirrors, don't get that option group. But living in the iowa/illinois area, it's really nice to have them. People aren't saying everyone should get them.. but it should be an OPTION. You talk about costs going up... well, that's why it would be an OPTION. You would PAY MORE for it.

The radio antenna just looks out of place. I know what you are saying with the retro thing, but there's alot on this car that ISN'T retro, and it would be nice if they included that. The overall look of the car would be alot better. If it didn't have the antenna, I guarantee most people wouldn't even notice. Nobody has asked me "where's your antenna" on my Magnum. It's just something you notice if it's there, you don't notice if it's not there, but looks better. Kinda like my shorty antenna. Only had one person notice it, but when I point it out and show pictures side by side, people say it's a big difference...
