I just removed the cats from my stock exhaust and MAN does that thinng sound nice...!!! I haven´t received anything but good comments on the throaty sound on my car. Everything was left stock, just swapped cats with straight piping. Perfomance wise it made a whole difference. At quarter mile my personal best time was 14.470, after cats swappped -- 13.670. In my opinion this mod mad a huge difference. I really recomend doing it!!!

Get a check engine light yet, or did you retune the computer? I have heard video clips with the setup u have and I think it is best sound I have heard, for me anyway. By the way, which pipe did you use? I am checking out Bassini and Pypes brands.

no need to replace the whole pipe, my local muffler shop, which by the way all drag/strip cars attend this shop, just replaced 2.5' pipe in place of the cats.... next week they are going to make me my x-pipe to remove the stock H pipe... the guys over at the shop made an inlet so the sensors could still be plugged on the pipes, as they were plugged on the cats... it was not till the third day that the service engine light went on... anyways I know my engine is ok, just detecting another parameter on those sensors...

TELL me again: YOu picked up .8 of a second by eliminating the cats only! NO other mods......Correct?!!!! Right after I took delievery I swapped the stock mufflers for some MagnaFlows and discovered it made no detectable difference. Ok..... it sounded better, but did not perform any better. I have been looking for some stock exhaust flanges so that I could make up a replacable bybass for my cats. Haven't found any yet......... need to find someone that has installed headers that no longer needs them so that I can try this.

I agree.. It's more likely that you learned to drive alot better. Without a tune, you actually lost power in the low end. You may have gained a bit up top, but not almost a second's worth in the 1/4. That 14 something is very high for these cars. With a good driver off the showroom floor, they will run 13.8 and even lower.

Did you happen to record the conditions on these runs? Being late november now, I would have to imagine you were running in cold dry air, and the previous run was in hot humid air in the summer. Without a record of the conditions during the runs, those numbers are worthless.

I ordered my Pypes O/R h-pipe from Brenspeed to go with my SLPs, but the sad part is that I hafta wait until March to put it on. But go under thier media section and listen to the clip of the Pypes O/R h-pipe and SLPs - I think I'm going to get in even more trouble with the local police for my car being too loud!!

Unfortunatly in states that check...i.e. NY, CA etc you need to have some cats to pass inspection. That said, removing the stock cats is definatly beneficial. I removed the stock cats and replaced them with Bassani's comp cats. Here is a picture I took of the difference between the two:

You can see how much larger and more restrictive the stock cats are.
The whole system also sounds great. I have Bassani cats, x-pipe and axle back. You can here it on the Dyno here:

I ended up with 299.1 rwhp / 323.7 rwtq with that exhaust, JLT CAI and custom tune.

yes that will probably be true, if you live in the US and have 98 octane fuel minimum..... fuel down here in mexico is 94 octane at the most

Besides, it doesnt matter if you lost a few on the low end.... My intentions are to be on the high end when at the drag strip!

98 octane minimum, where have you been? I live in the midwest and the highest stations have is 93 octane, and when I went on vacation cross country in August, it was a pain just finding 91 octane, let alone anything higher.

what part of California has inspection. The only time your car is inpsected is for smog checks and if you have a new car smog is'nt due for 7 years if you don't get pulled over and have a cop look your car over your good for 7 year so take of the cats
