i want tfs twisted wedge heads and stage 1 cam what will i need for the installation. should i get the heads with o rings or without and should i get the heads with 1.470" springs or 1.460" springs?

will i need to buy valve spings or lifters when installing the cam?
i beleive the 95 cobras come with 1.7 rr stock, can i still use the tfs cam with those rr's?

you wont need the o rings. check the specs on those springs. you will need one with atleast .550 lift. with 1.7 rockers that stage one cam will be about .530 intake lift and .541 exhaust lift. and i would replace the lifters at the same time too

You can use the heads with o-rings, they make it harder to blow a headgasket. But look at it this way, if something goes wrong, a headgasket is easier to replace than piston rings.

IIRC, the 1.6" springs are the dual spring setup, and can handle .600" of lift. You're gonna want the duel spring setup with that cam, not the single spring. Although the single spring is rated for .540" lift, it's better to have stiffer springs than absolutely neccessary to avoid valve float at high rpms.

It's a good idea to replace the lifters while you're in their, just for insurance, although it's not absolutely neccessary.

The valve springs come already installed on the heads.

I would suggest switching to some stud mount rockers, otherwise IIRC you'll need to buy a kit to convert those heads to accept your stock pedestal mount rockers (I think Cobra's are pedestal's right?). Either way, buy some new rockers, the stock ones are junk.

As for what else you'll need, you'll need bigger injectors, a bigger maf (calibrated for those injectors, unless you're gonna tune around that), a bigger fuel pump, and a variety of tools, like a torque wrench, feeler gauge, timing light, balancer puller, etc. etc.

yes ped mount, but why are they junk?

Speaking from mine and a few buddy's experience with stock rockers, they're weak, come loose quite easily, heavy (compared to some aftermarket ones), and a pain in the butt! to try and set the lash on (but all pedestal mounts are, not just OEM).

are we talking about the same rockers. the crane 1.7rr that come stock on the cobras, not the stock 1.6 rockers on gt's. ped mount rockers you torque to spec, not set lash.

I see your problem you don't set lash on ped rockers....god forbid me making close to 600rwhp with ped rockers.

I'm not saying there's something wrong with them, I just prefer stud mount. To each his own! :)

Hmmmmm........ maybe not then....

But on pedestal mount rockers, if they aren't adjusted right, don't you have to use shims? I don't like that.

so i should get the rings or no?

Doesn't really matter. If you were boosted I'd say no, because you want the head gasket to pop before something else goes wrong. On an N/A application, head gaskets aren't as common a problem.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the block need to have a groove cut into it to accept o-ring'ed heads?
