2009 Camaro leaked image

when i saw the challenger concept, i instantlhy thought "I'd buy that!" ...
Seeing that camaro, I thought "typical GM design slip up" i definitely would not buy that thing... it looks like it will have high speed instability problems, maybe a bit too retro.

I have to agree on that. When I saw the Challenger, first thoughts were "bad ass, love to drive one." With the Camaro, it was "well, that's different, and it should have the LS-2."

I'd like to see someone else driving one down the road, though! A Camaro or Firebird will never have the mass appeal of the Mustang, but that doesn't mean they can't be performance beasts and profitable to GM at the same time. My faith in GM getting it right is tentative, though. <crosses fingers AND toes>

That front looks like crap. Looks like that little retro truck thing Chevy made.

I think it looks hot! Thank GOD that we are finally seeing some decent looking American cars!

I am seriously thinking about getting a Challenger when I pay of Jezebel. Was thinking abut the Cobra, and still am, but why have two cars that look the same? I can get My Little Pony up to 350HP and then begin work on my Challenger.... It's like having multiple girlfriends... You want them all to be different. Unless you're dating twins...

:rlaugh: They at least have to nix that front end and side skirt. The interior concept is terrible too. If not I see a new series "Night Rider 2009" in the works.

The Challenger is hot and the interior is awesome:
This is retro done right. I can't say the same for the Camaro images I see.

Cool, I posted the stuff to get some honest reactions.

Over at CamaroZ28 forums, they all love it or hate it.

I see the same here.

This will not be badged as a chevelle. Camaro name is available to GM after 2007 for production, the closest they are talking is 2009.

I think with the quality GM has been putting out lately, as long as it has a usable back seat, the S197 will have some real competition.

For some reason, I do not see the challenger as doing as well. Being based off the 300 platform, it will have no choice but to be severely overweight.

Would you rather have a 3300 lb muscle car with 400 hp or a 4500 lb muscle car with 425? The weight will kill performance and handling, and it could kill the future of the car. Then again we don't know what the Camaro will actually weigh, and the same thing may apply.

Competition might be good for the future of the Mustang, but from a stockholder's point of view I'm less inclined to be trilled by the prospect of a challenge to the `Stang. Especially one from GM :notnice:

My one consolation will be that GM is slow in taking steps away from their ft-wheel drive platforms ... so maybe the Bean Counters will prevail once again!

I have said it before and I will say it again.

If GM actually Brings that to market as a Camaro or a Chevelle... the Mustang is gone... Period.

That thing is Bas as Hell and if it gets 400+hp... or a Z28 version with the 500hp motor... DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lutz has already announced in his Blog that if people keep saying the Challenger has 425 hp, Shelby has 475 hp, they do have a proven 500 hp unit, should the need arise.

But considering this 500 hp engine is also found in a 70k car, I am sure the price of the LS7 Camaro will be enough to make it very rare.

I don't think for a minute that the Mustang will go anywhere. If I can afford to have both, I will. If I can afford one and only one, GM really has to step up to th eplate, because I love the new Mustang GT, and horsepower alone does not get all of my attention.

That's a stretch......sure it will cut into sales, but gone? No way.
Maybe your Mustang is gone if you trade it.........but the Mustang won't be going away because of this car.

I would like to see what the production car would look like; to be honest I wasn't crazy about the original '05 concept either.

It looks good, but not as true to the original Camaro the way the Mustang is to the original Mustang.
When you see the Mustang it screams retro cool Mustang. If you showed me this GM car and didn't tell me what it was supposed to be, I would not have guessed it.
I think GM needs to be careful, retro doesn't always work, look at the Thunderbird.
The Challenger is a different story...

Chevy has it on their main site now. I'm not freaking out over it either. I don't like the way the front comes to a point and the rear is downright ugly. What is with that blacked out area around the exhaust?? It's gonna be fast though. We GT owners are gonna have to bump it up. I'm way more excited over the Challenger concept personally.
