Is it necessary to prime the oil filter after oil change?

I always pre-fill the filter, it does help with the dry startup. I just make sure I fill the new filter with new oil, before I get under the car to drain the sump. By the time I'm ready to spin the new filter on, the media has soaked up most of the oil, and unless I was sloppy in spilling oil around the filter flange, it will not spill out even when the filter is mounted horizontally.
The only vehicle I do not pre-fill is my kid's Probe 4cyl, as the filter is mounted with the can upright.:nice:

On my 5.0, i remove the coil wire and crank the motor til i get oil pressure on my gauge. Unfortunately can't really do that on the new stang.
hold the gas pedal to the floor, the engine will crank but won't fire. i usually crank it for 5 sec

same idea just a little easier:nice:
