hey this is my first day at this forum and i tried to use common sense and this seemed like the place to ask my question so if its not, i apologize. but has anyone thought of or done or have anything to say on putting 03 internals into a n/a 01? i dont have a cobra yet but soon i will and ive already thought about what im going to do to it. i plan on supercharging it later on. what are your thoughts/experiences with this?

Well if you could get a set of 03 internals for a reasonable price they would drop right into an '01. Have you priced an 03/04 Cobra crankshaft lately? Big $$$. You could purchase aftermarket forged internals cheaper than the stock Ford parts.

if he did do this, wouldnt it be kind of dawgy(not a very responsive throttle) because of the low compression if he waits a while to put the sc on there??
You are correct. He starts out stating he wants to put them in a n/a '01 Cobra, but goes on to say he plans on adding a S/C later on. So yes, the car would be a real dog with 8.5:1 compession n/a until he added the S/C.

umm, by "03 internals" do you just mean manley rods and pistons? you already have a forged crank... you can get the rods and pistons for like 8-900 dollars from shm or many other places...
I was unaware of the '01 haing a forged crankshaft. You sure about that?

Yeah, I was thinking that too. My 96 comes with the forged crank from the factory, and I thought all Cobra's beyond 96 did too.

AFAIk, all of the modular cobra engines came with forged steel crankshafts.

Additionally, automatic transmission equipped Mach Is came with a regular cast crank while the manual transmission Mach Is came with a forged steel crank).

so i could do this, but it would basicaly lag? what if i did it the opposite and bought a s/c and then internals. i didnt know about the crank either. so that makes things better, a little cheaper too. would i be ok using stock pistons and rods and such with a s/c, but have to just keep it at a low boost?

you'll be fine with stock internals with a blower, as long as u dont boost it over 10#s and as long as u have it all tuned right. Some people go beyond 10#s of boost with a good tune, but thats pushing it and u just dont know when its gonna go boom:eek:

i know that with turbos the generals rule is 10 hp/# of boost. is that the same thing with s/c or what kind of hp/torque should i be expecting at 10. boom=bad. my neighbors an idiot and ran like 16 psi on his stock engine
