Throwout bearing noise

After searching all the threads on here and on corral.net, I am still having trouble fixing the noise coming from my throwout bearing in my 2001 GT. I've tried adjusting the firewall adjuster in both directions, and I've sprayed white lithium grease at the TOB as well. Neither solution has worked for me.

I can obviously replace the TOB, but would rather not if I can avoid it.

Question: would it be at all helpful to remove the inspection cover on the tranny and adjust the bolts that hold the clutch cable to the clutch fork? Would that get me anywhere, or would it just mess things up further?

Thanks for any input...:bang:

Mine chirps like a bird when its cool outside. I dont think there is a fix for them aside from replacing them. Im holding off and gonna do the clutch at the same time.

It started as a chirping noise, like a family of crickets. It has now progressed to more of a chattering sound, which is louder and crappier sounding as well.

Mine too. I just don't want to go through the PITA of pulling my tranny until I absolutely have to. Hell, everything I've been reading from people that recently replaced theirs, many of them are chirping again ... Pieces of junk. :nonono:

My clutch makes a noise, kind of a squeak, when I shift at higher rpms (usually past 3500). Could that be my tob???

Sounds more like the clutch cable just making noise. Mine can squeak some times. The TOB will usually make a bird chirping sound when idling.

Mine does it worst when Im going down the road and some days are louder than others, but on a bad day it will squeek, the I hardly tip the clutch in and it gets louder, push a little more and it goes away...

How do I adjust the clutch cable to stop the noise?

Put the car in 1st gear (off), pull up really hard on the clutch pedal then press it back. It should "click" a little when it's re-adjusted. Mine still makes noises though and the TOB probably has something to do with it.

Give this a try.

Pull up on the clutch pedal then push the top of the quadrant (The part where the cable hooks on) back towards the firewall then release the pedal then the quadrant allowing the quadrant to rachet.

Give it a shot. It just might work for you.

Here is what I did to tighten the cable with the stock quad. Push the seat all the way back. Put your left hand on the clutch pedal. Place the handle of a hammer or similar object on the large flat area of the quad (near the hook-like part). Push in the pedal, and keep the hammer in place. Now slowly let the pedal back out, keeping firm pressure on the quad with the hammer. You will hear and feel the quad click. You have just tightened the cable one click. I would only do it one click at a time, and no more than two clicks total. You are putting pressure on the TOB so don't over do it. This and a shot of white lithium grease directly on the TOB silenced the cricket under my car. How long will it last? Only time will tell.

If you adjust it too tight and want to return to where you started, just lift up on the pedal with your toes then push it back in. That will reset the quad.

yea my tob is going to...while sitting at idle u hear it but then u step on the clutch just a tab and it goes away then when u start going again everyonce in a while u hear it when im drivin but that is rare..it happenes almost all the time when im just at idle and not moving..but as soon as i step on the clutch a tad it goes away..it sounds like a sqeeking\chirping noise its really annoying.

My car is in the shop right now for what I thought was just my throw out bearing. My buzzing noise turned into a louder chattering noise as well and when my tranny was pulled the verdict was a broken imput shaft. Neways it cost me 300 to have that thing fixed and my throw out bearing fixed and 800 worth of labor because I have longtubes.
