gotta make tough decisions sometimes.

i just traded an 03 cobra for a kia spectra

suprisingly i havent regretted it though. take out all my need for speed aggression on my new quad and im good.

i know the feeling with problems in a mustang though, i havent had one that didnt put me through hell at least once. cobra included.

For the love of Satan, why did you trade a Kewbra in on a KIA:notnice:  :nono:

my 04 explorer rides great but doesn't take turns fast :(

Well.... Does take turn faster then Kebra, considering it hasn't run in how long???:rlaugh:

J/K. thinking i wanna small SUV to replace my Geo. but price of gas scares me. Was talking to few people at the camp site yeasterday, and they were talking low 10mpg, and sometimes less then 10mpg. Less then 5mpg when they tow.

Suddenly makes my GT which gets less then 20mpg most of the time look all reasonable...:nonono:

cobra wasnt worth it anymore. i drove a pos daily (80+ miles, literally car was falling apart) and paid 500+ a month for the cobra to sit at home.

not to mention all the **** it was giving me, and every attempt at fixing it failed.

i dont regret it.

About 5 years ago my father had an explorer and he used it to pull are old boat. One day when we were going on vacation to Cape Cod the engine blew (literally) on the highway. My father then bought a used 97 Expedition and we bought a bigger boat that weighs over 5,000 lbs and the Expedition has no problems pulling it.

Well I think he made the right choice for pulling a boat. The engines used in the older explorers like your dads is anemic for regular driving, I would not tow with that V6

svttech76 how are the 4L 5sp automatic Rangers for towing small boats under 1000 pounds? I'm looking at a 2006 XLT 4X4 to replace my Mustang. Losing my company car for commuting and I just can't see driving the Mustang all winter long here in the North East. The Ranger looks like it gets good reviews and seems reliable. I'd be throwing the canoe in the back once in a while to take my son fishing, other than that it will be a daily driver. Do they hold up well ?

Shouldn't be a problem! The 5R55E is a stout little transmission and well suited for light duty tasks like that. Depending on which 4.0L configuration you've got will depend on how well it tows. The 4.0L OHV with the early rangers rated at 160-165hp was torquey on the bottom end, but pretty gutless on the highway. Even without a load and the additional help associated with the close ratio spacing of the 5-speed auto, the OHV show's its limitations in a hurry. The 4.0L SOCH rated at 205-210hp although slightly softer on the bottom end, has a much broader power band. I'd have no problems towing a small boat in my '01 Sport, so I would imagine an even lighter Ranger would do better still.

As a matter of fact, my buddy has an '05 Flair-side 4x4 Ext Cab with that exact set up and its one fast little truck. He's a big time rugged outdoorsman and takes that thing places that guys on ATV's would think twice about going through and has no complains (other than the cheap factory tires :D )

Bottom line....if you're going to buy a Ranger, make sure it's packing a 4.0L SOHC :nice:

Sorry svttech76, thought I'd field a question or two to give you a bit of a break. :D
