One of the best MP3 players I have used is the 512 iRiver...

Single AA Battery powered

Flash Memory (Meaning you can run with it, throw it against the wall, etc...)

Cheap (Now)

My GF has an iPod Shuffle 1GB, and it works in different ways, that can be seen by some as a plus.

You can plug it into the computer at school, work, ect. and access your files, and play music. Kinda like a portable harddrive for info, data, files, plus by plugging it in you charge it at the same time.

But it doesn't have a screen which sucks hard, but if you only have 1GB to work with you better like all the songs on the playlist anyways.

I know this might sound retarded, but unless i read it wrong, you said the iRiver doesnt have a screen? isnt that what the one above is? sorry, its been an extremely long day, and my brain isnt doing the thinking for me anymore

Nope, the iRiver has a cool screen.

My GFs iPod Shuffle has no screen. :nice:

I've had no issues w/ my iPod video. I even accidently dropped it in my driveway where it sat in the rain for an entire night. I just dried it off, cursed my stupidity, and let it sit for a bit in a dry warm place and she fired back up no problems.

I'm not too fond of the new version of iTunes (playback on the comp seems to screw up if I try surfing the web in tha background). But other that that I have not found too many other programs that can compare to iTunes. Very adaptable piece of software. Heck, I have a bunch of files is ogg vorbis (.ogg) format and all I needed to import them and play them on my ipod was the codec for iTunes. Plus the iPod is so popular that dozens of 3rd parties makes accessories for it.

Anyway, if you want a nice cheap iPod. I would look on ebay for NIB iPod minis. The demand for the nano has driven their prices down and they are far more durable and you can get them in 6gig (Nano only goes up to 4).

And no I'm not brainwashed. I just don't shyt all oversomething because its popular ;)

for the most part strype hit the nail on the head but if i were to go about it all again i would buy another brand since the ipod i had sucked. i always was having to reboot it and itunes blows.
My brother has a sandisk and it works great without a catch but i guess ipod has the video thing now so that is a huge purk. so i say go with the ipod but just keep in mind itunes is a crappy program and its not drag and drop:)

DRag and DRop FTW!!!

I have a sandisk as well, they have been around for awhile, plus it runs on regular batteries... nice little unit, it's a cheepie, $99.00

I had a Creative zen micro, black with blue backlight, i LOVED that damn thing, 5 gig, had around 1000 songs with much more rrom left, used it as a portable HD as well, you can set it to how much memory you wnat devoted to HD function, and you can change it anytime right from the thing. I got it it when I was around 14-15 for 179 bucks, MUCH better than the pos Ipod mini my friend got the same night, and he paid 230-250 for a 4 gig... I lost it though

*begins massive house wide search for badass MP3 player that got me through soooo many boring classes with great battry life...*

dont get a ipod, all of them are pieces of ****, Just go to ilounge.com and look at all the problems. I am on my 4th one, thank god for warranties buy mine just broke and warantee is done for, sucks for me. GO to skandisk

I love my 30gig Ipod Video. Still going strong after 1 year of use and it holds a butt load of Suicide Girls video podcasts plus all my music:nice: (Tattoo'd and pierced naked punk rock chicks FTW!)

The only problem I have with my Ipod is that every once in a while I cannot manually shut it off, so I have to reset it. A bit annoying but not a big deal.

We are going to buy an IPod for my wifes 9 year old, and i have never researched these things... can anyone tell me the differences and compatibility issues i might run into? thanks, i really appreiate it.

Decide which one you want (I'd guess nano), but the best thing to do is buy it straight from Apple, as they will engrave it for free. We got my daughter one for Christmas with her name engraved on it, & she thought it was the coolest thing on the planet.

What the hell do you people do to them. Mines taken falls, been left in the rain all night, left in my car in 100+ weather and it still runs w/o a problem.

Check out Creative Labs. I have a 20 GB Zen Touch which will run you about $200 new. It works great and has a 24 hour battery life! If you want the video capability, you can look at the Zen Vision for roughly $300. The only reason that you might consider going Ipod is that there are so many accessories that are compatible with Ipods and not other MP3's (speakers, car adapters, etc.)

I appreciate all of the responses from you guys... we went looking this weekend, and i actually printed this thread and took it with us.. we havent bought one yet, but we will probably sccop one up in the next few weeks. :SNSign:
