Super glue???

After taking the Stang in to the local auto body shop. I had them repair the prior owners **** up. Both doors would not close correctly. You had to lift them up a quarter of an inch and push in to close. Or pull a "Dukes of Hazard" via window.

After the repair, I asked him cost of fixing the molding or how one could go about doing a self repair. He told me to clean between the molding and door, and super glue it:shrug: Sounds "ghetto" to me, like duck tape. Is there something perhaps one of you would use? Or is this guy not bsing me, and superglue would work?

Thanks

I have had some luck using RTV adhesive for similar things. Clean it the best you can, squirt or use a putty knife to get it between the molding and door and have some way to clamp or hold it in place. The setting time is usually 30 to 60 minutes. The RTV is not 100 % permeate like super glue or epoxy probably would be and is easier to clean up if some oozes out.

I'm not sure how the moldings are placed on from the factory, I've heard they use clips but they also might just use double side sticky tape. The double sided tape works but you have to buy the really good stuff and it can get pricey. Cost me $40.00 for enough tape to remount similar trim on a 93 Dakota. A tape of clear RTV is about 4 bucks.
Good Luck

The mouldings are double sided tape, And atleast on the 86 mouldings they have a thin tinny metal backing, and once that is bent they're wavy as hell and hard to stick down. I had a hell of a time gluing my temporary moulding down, it kept lifting no matter what I would use.

pull it off. I used a putty knife and slowly worked it in to the tape while lightly taking off the trim and peeled it alll off. Remove the tape from the door and the moulding, then remove the thin metal peaice on the moulding, let it sit in a warm place for 1- how ever many you can stand w/o it and let it completely flatten out. Then just use double sided tape to adhere the two CLEAN sides and viola... done completely, no ghettoness and no waviness

We do this a lot at work with fox stangs we are painting.

Take the molding off. Get a torch and heat the thin aluminum on the molding. Get a pair of pliers and peel the aluminum strips off the molding. Clean the surface on the car very well and clean the molding off well. As stated before this post use double side tape, DO NOT USE SUPERGLUE. I would grab a buddy to help you make sure the molding is aligned with the other other moldings.

The double side tape works well. I've taken off and remounted. The most annoying time consuming part is removing the prior tape.

It's on there soild and I'm going to conduct a speed test. (Why a speed test? Why not).

You've stated to remove the aluminum strips off the molding. I was wonder what this will complete

The issue I've come across is parts of the driver's side molding will not hold to the door straight & firm. If anyone has a solution to this problem please let me know. This simple project has turned in to :bang: .
