Hey well i just got some Nitto DRs 315's on and they are rubbing on the inner lining when i go up driveways and the axle moves up and down. Its fine with big bumps and going over speed bumps. They are on 17x9 bullitt rims. Is a spacer my only way out? I figured i would be fine i had a lot of room with my 275's. I guess maybe the 17x9s backspacing or something is not ideal for 315s???

I didnt even know you could put 315's on 9 in rims. They are a tight fit on my 10.5's
Im guesing it has something to do with the back spacing.

I dont think it would be that hard to cut some of the lining out though.

So your running 10.5's with 315s and having no rubbing what so ever? Are you lowered? Im only dropped 1.25 with my steeda springs. I was looking at spacers and they are like 100 bucks almost! Maybe ill just skip the bullitt brakes for Xmas and see if my folks will toss some cash into a new rim fund. I LOVE the look of these wide tires from the back and maybe if i get the right 10.5in rims they wont rub:shrug:

Sup John.

Backspacing has to be the issue. I'm lowered (Super Sports), have 315's (on 10.5's), and don't rub. I tapped the inner fender up a bit with a hammer, though. Have you tried that? If you look in there, you will see a line in the metal. Just tap it with a rubber mallet until that line is the new well border. Or you can cut it, but you may have to fill a couple of small holes through the trunk if you do that. What is the backspacing on those?

Yeah, you CAN, but not recommended.

OT: I'm gonna be putting 305/70/16's on my truck .... which has 7.5" wheels. The thing is you have to run the pressure a little low in situations like that because the middle of the tires will wear out quick if not.

Any issue with the outer fender or is the tire an inch or two inside of that area? If so, you may need the backspacing of a 10.5" wheel.

This issue seems to come up failry often and I always wondered if the 315s ever caused issues with the outer fender. Maybe all the fuss is always over the inner fender (between the tire and the trunk area).

No they are plenty far in for the outer fender not to be effected. They are rubbing on the inner fender/trunk area. I think i will seriously looking into a set of 17x8 and 17x10.5in rims.

Did you have any problems get the tire on the rim, I didn't know you could put that big of a tire on a 9 i thought 285 was pushing it. Sweet maybe I won't need to buy new rims.
Yeah they said it was no big deal. I remember seeing tons of 03 cobra guys putting them on their stock 17x9in rims so thats why i figured i wouldnt have any trouble getting them on mine.

Before you do anything:

Take some measurements now with the current 17x9 wheel: distance from outer tire edge to outer fender and distance from inner tire edge to closest obstructing part, and also, inner tire edge to some other fixed area.

When you do get a larger wheel, take the measurements again and compare them. Should be interesting to see where everything is adjusted. The measurements will be quite different, because the tire will lay differently on the larger wheel (maybe not a huge difference, but maybe a measureable one).

You could have a seperate set of measurements for both sides, cause they will be different.

my 295's rubbed untill i beat the hell out of the inner fender with a large hammer. It should be pretty obvious where its hitting by the scrub marks.

I have 10.5" 03 cobra rims with no spacers....

and mine would only rub when i did some 4x4'in and flexed it out
