MPG-Meter

I was wondering if anybody has ever installed one of those aftermarket instant MPG meters.

Is it at all difficult? Is there a certain type you'd reccomend?

I was just thinking that that would be awesome for improving my driving habits to better get good milage.

Easy.. just install a vacuum gauge and drive so that the vacuum is always high (like 18 inches).

I can easily get my milage for my trip. I do that every time that I gas up. I want to know instant MPG while I'm driving, so I know things like how fast I can go on the highway without compremising my milage, primarily. I usually do around 60 and with my lack of OD (tranny's busted, getting it fixed right now) I've been getting about 22-25 highway mpg. I've heard some people say that with high torque engines that they get better milage at 80 than they do at 60, so I want to know if I'm killing my milage by driving slower.

Mostly what a mileage Gauge does is measure vacuum. If you get a vacuum gauge, and try to maintain as much vacuum as possible, you will get the best mileage. Be warned though, i have a vac/boost gauge in my car, and keeping the vacuum high is not easy. Takes a lot of will power, and slow starts. I myself prefer More boost then Vacuum.

just buy a vacuum gauge from almost anywhere and install the tube to the vacuum tree on the firewall
