It's gotta be the Minilites

If you're gonna make like a Trans Am and :Track: then the Minilites are the way to go, and I second the Team 3 wheels vote - because I have seen good write-ups on the company and I'm biased - they're local.

They say "retro cool" What Would Frank Bullitt do? He'd buy the Minilites of course. :nice:

Yeah, Team-III has become pretty popular in some circles because of their less common upsized vintage style wheels. They really fill a niche in the over-billet-ized aftermarket wheel world. I had been looking for 17" minilite style wheels for years and had given up when I suddenly found a guy over on pro-touring.com last year that had a set on his '69 Camaro. Nice wheels, but unfortunately too pricey for me. BTW, the Minilite company doesn't make upsized versions beyond 15" last time I checked (which was a while ago

the minilites seem more or less identical to the Vintage Wheel Works Vintage 48s, seen here

They come in 16x8 and will also be available as a two-piece in 17 inches. The wheels go for $995 for a set but factory seconds are available for $650. I got the blemished ones (vintage 45s) for $650, figuring I would eventually trash them anyway and to tell the truth, I cannot tell where they are blemished.

I agree. Bad form Noob! Bad form!! BNickel is one of the members of this forum's brain trust. You got no history or cred here while he is long in both those departments. Maybe you did not want to come off looking like a jackass but you did anyway.

thanks Jerry. i just got a PM from him and he apologized so all is cool.

I wonder if the 2 piece 17" version is a recent addition. I remember looking at the V48s but was disappointed they weren't available in 17s. So are you saying I can get a set of 17" factory seconds for $650??? That would suck since I just bought my set of '03 Mach. :(

Minilites. I almost went to them myself but went with the TT2s before they were standard issue on restomods. I still like them but don't like the "me-too" aspect they seem to imply.

I love the trans-am look.

no doubt they are a cool wheel, but they're getting to be like cragar ss wheels were during the 70's every street machine around had a set cragars. they have gotten so bad around here that you can hardly find a car at a show that doesn't have them. it seems like the only vintage cars around here that don't have them are chalk mark resto's. i wanted a set when they first came out but i wouldn't give 50 bucks for a set now. for the moment i am going to stay with 15" rikens, they are a BBS looking mesh wheel, if i could find a set like them in 17" i would be all over them.

most BBS wheels are one piece so i doubt if you can custom backspacing.
Team III makes the halibrand style wheels in 18" and i'm pretty sure the minilite copies are a 2 piece wheel so they maybe you can talk them into making a custom set in 18" hoops

That would be nice if the center is not off a 17" wheel. I hate that stepped rim look, ruins the wow factor completely. I have seen 18" from a company in England?, but the hoop is stepped up and it looks as though they use the center from a 15" and it looks worse than the 13" minilites they sometimes use over there. I will give them a call. I am ordering the Team III mini lites, I hope they can do a one off in 18" but I doubt it.

i think the final look of the minilites will be awesome whether or not you can get them to do an 18" wheel or not. i bet you will be very proud of the look even in a 17" rim.

shoot us some pics as son as you have them mounted up.

Wheels finally purchased and installed

Well, here it is! 17 " Team III wheel Mini lites. Finally purchased them and got them mounted. I like the way they turned out, 17x8 front and 17x9.5 rear all four on Nitto NT01's.

I also installed the Fayes watts link.
