HELP,ANYBODY.
heres the deal,im an old school gearhead who has never owned anything considered a hot rod that i didnt drag out of a field, or a BARN.i saw the new mustang body and said wholly crap i got to get me one of those.so i bought a brand new 06 gt and i cant get this stupid grin off my face.so heres the problem, the serious lag when i put the hammer down(worse than an old harley pukeing through its carb on a full tilt boogie).i bought bassani axel backs,k@n cold air intake and a chip for my mass airflow sensor.what else will i need to put the hitch in my get along .any help would be greatly appreciated. THE OLD GUY!

i dont know what "chip" you got, but a better choice would be to get a handheld tuner, like the ones offered from diablosport or SCT.

with a tune, you will eliminate the throttle lag, and gain about 25 rwhp.

I never heard of a chip for the MAF sensor. But the others were right about getting a tuner and CAI. I got my SCT Xcal2 and C&L intake from Brenspeed, along with a set of Pypes polished stainless mufflers.

I have had this on my 07 GT for a few months and have no problems, and no throttle lag. You will be so amazed at the huge difference in power from idle to red line, that you will have to re learn driving the car allmost.

I run 93 octane now and get at least 20 mpg in the city, and gassin on it every chance I get. Im an old guy too "52" but I cut it loose all the time and love it! Now on the highway I get between 25 and 27 mpg running my minimun cruising speed of 80 mph.

So you go real fast, and save gas too! What I bought cost $950.00 total from Brenspeed, it was the best money I could have spent. And its definitly the most bang for the buck you will be able to do easy your self in a few minutes.

Git er done!! brenspeed.com

On ebay there are auctions for an easy 10 HP boost. What you actually get is a resistor that you attach to the mass air sensor that is supposed to tell the computer something different than actually is. The result of which is supposed to be a HP gain. No way you should use these as it would be an instant warranty void and of questionable gain. They usually can't be connected without cutting into an existing wire and adding obvious wiring change to you system.

Hi Ryan,

The K&N intake you purchased although not too bad is a far cry from the top of the line ones. The reason that they claim no tune is needed is because they use the same diameter tube around the mass air sensor. The top of the line ones such as the 2 C&L models Street in aluminum and racer in plastic use larger diameter metering holes which is why the need for a tune so that it can properly calculate its air. The other top of the line one is the JLT.

From what I understand C&L is having trouble keeping up with demand at the present time on the street intake

The second part of the equation is a hand held tuner. This device will allow you to install different tunes into your car as well as change the gearing calculations if you decide to change tire sizes or rear end gears so that your spedometer is dead on. They will also read and clear any check engine light if one does illuminate for some reason and you can also turn off the rear O2 sensors if your catalytic converters are somehow mysteriously stolen.

The 2 top mail order tuners in the field today are Doug from Bamachips and Brenspeed. I have never used either one of them personally but from what I hear their tunes rock. From the comments I hear Doug is #1 in the throttle by wire department. I believe that Doug only supports the SCT X-Cal II tuner and will also sell you the tuner and intake of your choice.

Your best bet is to email Doug with your questions and it'll probably take a few days for him to get back to you. DO a search and you'll see people swear by him.

If my car wasn't supercharged I'd go to Doug.

Best of luck.

Years ago I owned a Datsun 280-Z that a friend an fellow Z owner showed me how to wire in a resistor that would fool the fuel injection system into thinking the engine's temp was colder than it actually was. This caused the fuel mixture to be slightly richer and made the car run a little better.

Ryan,
As others have mentioned, your best option to maximize performance would be an Xcal or Predator tuner and a CAI such as C&L. Put it on a dyno to dial the tune in.
There are other "goodies" that will eliminate the lag, such as underdrive pullies and 3.73 or 4.10 gears.
