What do you all think Ford's main issue is??

  • Sponsors (?)

previously I think they had poor quality issues which made them loose alot of faithful....now there problem is that there cars dont interest people.....the fusion is the only decent model they have right now. They also are still relying heavily on the explorer and expedition and I think we are now seeing the decline in SUVs and family sedans are coming back. They need to realize this and start building sedans that can compete with toyota, dodge, honda, and even auto makers like audi or infiniti

the sad thing is i think there quality has improved but they have already lost so many loyalist.....they need to come back out with some cutting edge designs and do something with there sedans like diamler-chrysler is doing with the hemi engine.....offer some sweet rides.

Very simply, they need to build cars that people want to buy. Right now, if it wasn't for the Mustang and the F-series trucks, Ford would be DOA. Their other cars are all dull (500, Fusion) or old (Focus, Explorer, Crown Vic). They need exciting new models. The Edge? No. They need sporty, fun to drive cars. At the Detroit Auto Show Chevy showed up the the Camaro convertible. Toyota showed up with an all-new Tundra. William Mulally drove onto the stage in a new 500. Woo freakin' hoo.

I am sure most of the loss for '06 is paying off all the employees and getting the pension employees off the payroll every month. Manufactures have been paying employees for 30+ years that have not helped generate product but taking profits.

Unfortunately, it's an example of how NOT to transition a corporation into the 21st century marketplace... (someone) needs to buy enough shares to take control, fire all of their corporate officers, and go private. Its the only way to save the dying beast... like ancient Rome its too big and too inefficient... and Ford still refuses to learn from its competitors... idiots! I hate it when my team is losing

they need to bring some of the sedans that they build in australia and sell em here. some of those cars are awesome 4 door sedans

+1 but they dont meet US goverment ratings. They had that interceptor model they are working on that has mustang underpinnings. i think thats sweet and will be a hit depending on how the styling comes out.

honestly - the fusion is what the company needs. The fusion is a biggg hit, and its Fun to drive, and is very stylish. they need to have more designs like that. personally i like the edge however i have not driven one and cannot give you my opinion on quality fit and finish.

Me personally, i think everything they design should have some type of performance or svt model available, even if they only make a minimal amount.
It will draw attention to the crappy model. Kinda of like people that buy v6 mustangs, yeah they want a v8 but can't afford them, so they settle, which helps finance the good stuff.
People want something that is in the same product line as something cool.
When they scrapped the adrenalin i knew ford was in trouble.

What do American car companies have that other's don't?

American heart strings. Remember the muscle car days is the saying now.

Ford's problem is that it is always last to the game.

Nissan, Lexus, so-forth over 300hp on naturally aspirated 3.5 liter engines.

ok hmm Asian v6 300 hp or fords v8 with 300hp? The mustang ought to have 400hp naturally aspirated.

Shoot, GM has a pushrod all aluminum dry sump 427 small block that screams.

GM made the cam-in-block adj. Nothing has the american grunt of a true small block unless it uses pushrods, forced induction excluded.

Ford designs some wide 4.6 liter engine when, like GM, they should have designed a new series of pushrod powered engines; 302, 351 and so forth. Only Ford that I have on my campus is my Notch, all others are gone.

Anyone read up on the new lexus

Big letters 5L 400hp. People know of the 5L name and you add 400hp to that tag and you have a winning combo; even if it is not associated with a Ford.

Far as I am concerned, let the Asians have the family driver market. Focus on decimating with what they can't and that is American History. Focus on making those legends new and improved and for an unbeatable price.

If you divvy up troops and spread them too thin you will lose every time.

Ford thrived in the 80's and early 90's

a) Cheap sports car many college kids could actually afford which created an even greater used mustang market

b) The invention of the Explorer (SUV type)

c) Economical cars like the Probe/escort/festiva that got great gas mileage

d) Ranger. Period.

e) F-150 work trucks instead of the now "pretty trucks" that won't hall anything.

f) Cut chevy's Caprice off in the police market with the Crown Vic.

Now?

a) Mustang is WAY OVERPRICED and looks like a russian spy satelite (95-04)

b) The 4.0 in a larger Explorer breaks down because of added weight. 3 or 4 identical V8 SUV's now. Too many.

c) Economical cars get great gas mileage are not offered.

d) Ranger. Well thank god they did something right.

e) F-150 "pretty trucks" that won't hall anything.

f) Still got the police market

Now with the gas prices, Toyota's truck market, and Honda's car market they are screwed. They have 1 motor (5.4) that can last over 200k miles. Every honda I've ever seen lasted over 200,000 miles.

yep all good points have been hit on here...they arent building cars people want. a couple are good but no one has faith in ford anymore. they need to go to austraila and bring the falcon over...offer it in many trims from a basic 6cyl sedan to a screaming M3 killer. then bring the escort back from europe...remember the cosworth powered models?? it would be good to have a probe-like car too...sporty and fun but economical.

Bringing the Falcon over and the Escort > Focus is a good idea in my opinion. Escort was very well known in Rally and could always bring it back. Fusion is a good sedan keep it going though. I like the explorers and expeditions just give them a little more power especially out of the 5.4L V8. Brother's 2005 5.4L Fx4 is a dog compared to my 2006 4.7L Tundra! Truck will actually tow our boat better than his F150 yet he has a higher tow rating! I would like to see them bring back names from older cars. Falcon, Escort, Fairlane (instead of the 500), etc. The new superduty should be a big hit with the new diesel as long as they don't have the same problems they did when the 6.0L hit the market. Ranger has always been a great looking/selling truck and the F150 just needs more guts (less weight)!

One thing that I have been saying for years now is FORD DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO FREAKIN ADVERTISE!!

I mean seriously, they need to fire all the idiots in their advertising and marketing department and hire people from the foreign auto makers adertsing departments. When I'm watching TV and I see a lot of those foreign car comercials, especially Nissan's Altima and Maxima, it just makes me want to go buy one of those cars, even though my dad works for Ford and we have never owned a foreign car in over 30 years.

Then I see a Ford commercial, *Taylor Hicks singing some ghey song* WTF, that really makes me want to buy a Ford vehicle!! Every Ford commercial and advertisment I see is like that, stupid, cheesy, almost nothing to do with the car, and does not at all make people want to drive that vehicle. And WTF is up with "Bold moves, they happen every day"!! That is THEE stupidest slogan I have ever heard in my life!

They also need to market much better, meaning advertise and stock cars better in certain geographical and economical areas. I live in Chicago and go to school in Wisconsin, and on Ford's advertisements I never hear or see anything about the 500, Fusion, or Edge being all wheel drive! You would think that in the North they would make it a point to inform potential customers that these cars have all wheel drive to better help them sell. Look at Volvo, Saab, Subaru, and others, they make commercials just to poing out that their sedans have all wheel and are great for winter conditions, as well as summer and rain! I mean most people don't even know that the 500 and Fusion have all wheel drive!

As mentioned before, I also think the need to heavily bring back the SVT department. The muscle car era IS coming back, and right now I would say that Mopar is on the front lines with it's new muscle cars. If you have performance version of a vehicle, it puts more focus on the non-performance version for people who can only afford that or is more economical for them.

I personally think that if Ford would invest a huge amount of money in their Marketing and advertising and learn from their competitors in that respect, they could make huge bounds of progress. Then from their start revising their product line.

could not have been said better!
