Does anyone know where I can get the mouldings on my '90 rear quarter windows restored? Preferably in the Long Island area. I'm in the midst of a resto. Thanks.

Well, the body shop I'm dealing with wanted a massive (and I mean massive) amount of money to do the job. Also, do they even still sell those windows new anywhere? I've never seen them new anywhere.

You can try to refinish them yourself. Do a search and there are a couple of threads about refinishing them. Or you have 2 choices for purchasing quarter windows:

i did mine myself and they came out awesome....just tape off the window and paint them with a semi gloss black to match the black trim....sand in between coats but make sure you put the paint on thick and it will fill in just fine...mine were horrible and they still looked brand new afterwards

How bad are yours? As long as they aren't too pitted, you can just sand them down, use a flexible primer, and shoot them with paint of your choice (I used bumper paint). No need to spend a bunch of money. If yours are really gross, just find the nicest set you can out of a junkyard car to refurbish.

Quarter window resto
I just did mine and found it easier to just remove them from the car. I sanded them down with a 400 grit paper, then a 600 grit for fine finishing (this depends on how badly pitted they are. You may have to use a spray on filler product also known as "feather fill" to fill in all the deeper pits). I used a high build primer, about 3 coats, then sanded with a light grit again. I then sprayed a coat of Bull Dog Adhesion Promoter to make the new paint stick real nice. To finish, I applied about 3 coats of SEM Landau Black. I also taped off around the door/roof trim and sanded them down a little to remove small pits and imperfections accrued from 16 years of being exposed to the enviroment. I then shot them with 3 coats of the Landau black so they will match perfectly with the refinished quarter windows. Not a bad project at all. Just take your time removing the windows and make sure you count 9 (NINE) nuts removed from each window. Thats for a hatch back, Im not sure how many on a notch. It may help to heat around the glass a little to soften up the adhesive tape to make for easier removal. I went to a local glass shop and purchased two 25 ft rolls of the window adhesive tape for 3 bucks a roll (bought 2 because I got a great deal on them) This is similar to what Ford actually used from the factory. Take your time with the adhesive part of the project because that is what actually keeps the water from getting into the vehicle during washes or rain. It would suck to remove the rear quarters all over again just for a small leak. The glass guy said to stay away from using silicone because once it sets, it looses adhesiveness. Good luck.

DONT USE SILICONE TO RE-INSTALL AND MAKE SURE ALL 9 NUTS ARE REMOVED FROM THE WINDOWS BEFORE TAKING OUT (FOR A HATCH-NOT SURE ABOUT NOTCH BACKS).
