Does anyone know what all has to be done to convert the brakes on a 98 GT to a Cobra brake system. I am assuming that I will need calipers, rotors and pads, but what else.

Thanks guys.

Parts you will need

rotors
calipers w/pads

94-98 cars will also need brake lines, either 99-04 factory lines or SS lines

correct banjo bolts and copper washers

We are talking front brakes here right??

The bracket is specific to the caliper...but usually most people consider it part of the caliper.

No you can't use the GT one, you need the cobra specific caliper bracket.

Assembled it would look like that.

It should look like this, caliper bracket and pads.

Yeah we are talking about the front. Basically all I need is the bracket for the Cobra calipers. I have all of the other stuff. I just don't have the brackets for the Cobra calipers. With the right brackets does everything bolt up the same?

Thanks

Okay now that I got the front taking care of, does anybody know about the rear brake conversion? Is it just like the front? Will the Cobra stuff bolt up the same as the GT's.

No, it's not just like the front. I don't know how much it's worth it. You have to have all the hardware (rotors, caliper, bracket, etc) and you have to pull the axles. I bought the whole Cobra set off a guy with an 01, but only installed the fronts.

The rear brake converstion is kind of a pain. your quad shock brackets have to be cut off. you have to pull you axles. for the limited gain it is not worth it IMO.

I did the whole conversion on my car and in hindsight I would have either kept the stock gt rotors in the rear or bought the baer or muscle motors 13" rear kit. it was more money so i did not do it but pain of the install was more than I anticipated.

I went with the cobra setup to make parts easier to come buy. like replacement rotors and such.

Front is a piece of cake though.
