Which trans do i have??

It would be an ET transmission. It was used since 1974 (origonally in the Pinto/Bobcat). It is a German made transmission with no overdrive. 4th is 1:1. It has no relation to the T5 of the later 2.3L and 2.3T cars. Interesting this would come up as I am trying to track one down right now. The one I bought was out of a Pinto and has the wrong tailshaft. I need one out of a 79-86 Mustang/Capri 2.3L. Anyway, from what I can tell, it is a good transmission and it is fairly durable. Not sure if it will stand up to a turbo 2.3L but I have heard of others using them. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I only used this because I had it laying around, and i couldn't afford to do a proper t-5 swap. There will be a t-5 in there at some point, when that happens you have dibs on this tranny... but i don't know how far off that is.

Glad I could help. How does that transmission shift for you? Do you like it? I'd like to get a few reviews of how they work before I tear my automatic out and put one in the capri. I've had a few offers for 4 speeds, but if the price is right, I could maybe use a spare.

I've only put about 100 miles on it so far, mainly because I'm running an open 3" downpipe and its loud as hell. It shifts good, better than a stock t-5 I think, the gears are easy to find, a short-throw would definetly help it but I doubt theres any out there for it. I still need to make some adjustments.. if I'm into to the boost it will stall between shifts so I need to adjust my BOV. I'll be able to tell more when get it all buttoned together. Hope this helps.

It does. I was looking for a comparison between the T5 and the ET because I am really up in the air about which one to put in my capri. I was always told that the ET was hard shifting and tough to find gears, but that was always from people that love the T5. You've told me otherwise and I would believe it since you're not biased to the T5 like the other people I've gotten opinions from. From what I can tell, it does seem to be a very good transmission. The good thing about me using an ET instead of the T5 is that I can still use my 3.27:1 rear gears. With a T5, 3.27 would be a bit low and I would end up never using overdrive anyway.
