Problems after applying tune

I have an '06 Mustang GT with a 5-speed.

A few weeks ago I bought the C&L street CAI & SCT Xcal2 tuner package from Brenspeed. I also bought the Steeda underdrive pulleys. I put the CAI on and applied the 87 octane tune per the instructions, but I still haven't installed the underdrive pulleys. Gas is too damn expensive right now to go to the 93 octane tune. Besides, it's really a lot quicker even with the 87 octane tune!

My problem is my engine can't seem to figure out where it wants to idle. Usually when it's cold it idles at between 1500 and 2000 rpm's for awhile until it warms up and then it varies between 800 and 1000 rpm's afterward. It doesn't always do this, but it almost never idles below 800 or 850 and it seems to be varying its idle a lot of the time. Also, sometimes when I first start it up and begin to let out the clutch it will start to surge and continue to go up and down like I'm pushing down and letting up on the gas. I have to completely get out of the pedal to make it stop doing this. This doesn't happen all the time, but enough to be irritating.

Has anyone else experienced this? Should I reapply the tune? Or could this be happening because the tune is setup for the underdrive pulleys which I haven't installed yet? Any help with this would be much appreciated. Thanks.

my car did the same thing after installing a c&l street intake and pred. tune. i did not notice any idle problems. but it ran rough for a few minutes, then everything was fine. i was told the computer has to "learn" the new tune characteristics. if this is happening on a regular basis well after a tune, i would definitely check into it.

I have the C&L Racer and SCT tune from Brenspeed. My car does something similar. It surges at idle for a few seconds when I come to a stop. Brent's explanation was the mass air was bigger, allowing more air in. This causes the idle to act screwy. He told me there isn't a fix for this, although I can't help but think bigger injectors might help... but I'm not a techie.

I have not had any problem like this on the 06, but with many fox body's i have, the fix for them was to open up the small hole in the throttle blade, hence letting the car get more air at idle when the throttle is closed, I would be willing to bet it would work with the s197's to. Good luck!!!

If you can, drive it for 3 or 4 days. My car did the same thing when I first progammed it , but it stablized in a couple of days and has been fine ever since (over a year now)

I had the same problem and when I asked Brent, who does all my tunes, he told me that FORD has a factory setting to allow the cats to warm up by adjusting the IDLE to run higher for a few seconds until they warm to the right temp and then return to normal idle.. I asked him to remove the setting and he resend me the tune and I have no problems now... :nice:

It's definitely not your underdrive pulleys Larry, because pulleys do not require any tuning.. So it would really be in your best interest, to follow Steedastang06's recommendation, by contacting Brent and have him remove the setting, and then send you an updated tune, as soon as possible..

Oh yes it could be the pullies, I just torqed my pullies down with an impact without going through the torque directions that come with the pullies, and my CEL kept coming on. When I checked the codes, it said cilinder misfire on #3 +#5.
I thought it was a problem with the tune, but when I called Brenspeed, they said the pullies are very sensitive and are to be torqed down the exact way the directions state. I did it right and no problems since. :nice:
