Not your typical TQ Converter question

I know when most people replace it they want performance but still somewhat streetable. Here is my situation I would replace my TQ converter with a stock one, but the stock ones suck and I don't want to get another shudder problem that eventually leads to its failure. So what is the most mild almost stock in every way shape or form except more reliable tq converter for the aode? Also how long should it take a shop to do this and what would should I expect to pay? Thanks.

It's hard to tell that my converter stalls at almost 3,000rpm. The lockup of our trannies makes higher stalls very streetable, you won't notice much difference from stock except for the fact that your tires can now break loose. :-D

My Mach 1 has a 3,000 stall in its C4 - not a lockable setup. Big difference.

Thanks but 3k is too much really i plan on just removing the 3 bolt ons I have done and put the car back to stock. Is there anyone that makes an oem one that does not shudder?

I wouldn't consider a shudder on one converter a "rule" that all stock converters will shudder. You should be able to get another one, either new or at a junkyard that won't shudder. Heck I still have my stock replacement stall in my garage. Wish I lived closer to you.

Well I decided not to replace the tq converter yet. I'm going to do a flush at the dealer hopefully this weekend as well as install a tranny cooler. Anyone have a step by step on how to install a tranny cooler? I'm going to use the B&M 70264: http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/itemproduct_10001_10002_31948_-1_758370_10535

I saw one but I was hoping to find some more pics. I figured it would be an easy install but seeing that I have to remove an airbag crash sensor I'm a little uneasy now. Does it come with clear instructions?

I don't remember mine coming with instructions.

My cooler which is just a tad bigger than that size fit pretty well on the top, passenger's side of the grill opening. I also took off the plastic shroud on top of the radiator to give me some working room. It's just a bunch of plastic clips that hold it on. If you break any, they are sold at Lowes.

I can take you some pictures if you'd like.

I strapped it through the condenser, although I have some flat bar I will use to mount it to the frame at some point to keep it from rubbing a hole in the condenser. I also used high temp rubber lines, although I have AN line and fittings in the shop to install at the same time I do the flat bar.

I didn't remove any sensors either. Mine is set at an angle. It's basically inbetween the coil for the Power Steering cooler. Also in front of the A/C condenser. I just tied it in there. It's super stable and can't go anywhere even if the ties break. Works great and doesn't cover as much of my radiator this way.

If you could take some pics that would be great.

That actually sounds like a great way to do it as well, do you have any pics?

Sorry StinkinLincoln I already ordered it.

Also any pics of the lines would be real helpful I just have this image of me having the wrong lines going in and out of it.

Ugh, I got tied up installing my new T/B and trying to get the beast to idle again. :x

I just ran the included hoses around the side of the radiator. One went into the radiator itself, the other went into the hardline going back into the transmission.
