It never hurts to ask if there is a discount available but to be insistent on it for $3K?

I think not. I'm sure that 5ohResto shipped more than $3K worth of product before the over-head lights were even warm that morning.

That is the one of the reasons I got out of retail...and one of the main reasons I refuse to work the front counter at work. People think because they feel that they are spending a lot of money, they deserve a discount.

Honestly, I don't think anybody who is ready to drop $3k deserves a discount. I think discounts should be reserved for those who actually need it. Forget about the guy who wants to spend $3k restoring his car, I would rather give a discount to the guy who needs to replace his water pump in his daily driver so he can get to his mid-level job and pay his bills.

It is one thing to ask for a discount when you talk to them, but to come online and complain about the company because they wont give you a discount for being you...

I would never ask for a discount for $3000, that isn't really that much money, depending on how many parts your buying. Now if I were ordering 50 things and $10000 I would be talking to them asking if there was something they could do for me. You also would NOT find me whining on the net when they wont, and then calling people stupid! Very classy!

If you work in sales then you must realize that the small amount of profit they are going to make on your $3000 order is not even worth the salesman's time to put you on hold and ask his supervisor if he can give you a discount. These mail order companies don't work on huge margins, they work on huge volume.

Pay up or shut up......unless you plan to spend $30000 you've got nothing.

I don't know what planet you guys are from or what kind of super high paying jobs you have, but to us normal Earth folks, $3000 is a lot of money. Regardless of whether he should have or should not have received a discount isn't up to us, it's up to the company. People love to run their mouths about how much they paid for something because they think it's a status symbol. **** thhaaatttt.

If a company thinks my $3000 isn't "worth their time" then forget it, I'll spend my money else where. I spent several thousands of dollars at Summit and received king like treatment while I was there. That doesn't make me any better than the next guy spending ten dollars.

For you guys that brag about " I spent this" or "I spent that" and didn't get a discount... that sucks for you cause you might have gotten one if you asked for one. MOST companies won't discount unless asked to... DUH? So ask, if they say no, DAMN YOU DIDN'T GET A DISCOUNT... but if you had gotten one you would be happy. Like another thread said, there's a lot of glass houses on this forum.

I'm in retail as well buddy. Unfortunetly you don't make enough profit off a "water pump" to give a discount. This is another case where the bigger you are the better deal your gonna get. Buy more product, get it cheaper. When you spend 3K at a company they can easily afford to give you free shipping. When you ask for a discount thats pushing it. Now if you ordered 6k and up yes they should give you one. Personally we only mark down the prices on trailers if a guy buys 3 or more. Which is around 8k.

And as nice as it would be to give the mid-level guy a discount you can't, because he isn't buying enough product for you to. Its just tough ****

And don't expect anything if you haven't spent a few thousand bucks there either!
And the more little things you buy the more they make on you. If you bought 3k in small parts they make more then 3k on 1 part. They probably have between a 30%-60% mark up. It all depends on how much over head they have and if they have a big heated building. The little guys that have a small shop that don't stock stuff can sell you it cheaper because they have less over head. They don't have a 1 million dollar building w/ 9 full times salesman etc...

And if your gonna buy from somebody. Buy from Brothers Performance and talk to 1 of the brothers. They have equal if not better prices then 50resto.com and they are a great company. I get free shipping on everything over 600.00 bucks i order from them. They treat you good thats why i keep going back. They got good prices, awesome shipping packing and they get it to you FAST. Never had a better company to work with. Thats why i spend my majority of money there!

It is one thing to ask for a discount, it is another to ask, call back 3 times like the poster said (basically refusing to talk to the company until they discounted stuff for him) and then posting about the company online because they wont sell their parts cheaper then they list.

I have no issues with him asking, after all if you don't ask you never know, but to come on here and complain about the company asking what the deal is...

Thats where the issue lies!

I work at a Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealer and I can tell you there's mark up in everything and everyone knows it. I agree with the guy who said he'd rather give a discount to the guy wanting the water pump. I'm much more likely to just go ahead and do it for the guy regardless of whether he asked or not. I hate it when someone brings me their $60k SUV that they put too many miles on driving to Cape Cod for their summer trip so they're out of warranty and EXPECT me to do something for discount or free. I'm more prone to help the guy who spent $12k on his Neon so he could go to work and we didn't make much money on then the guy who we whacked for his new Chrysler Aspen so he could pull his yacht. Maybe I'm crazy... Maybe I'm human... who knows.

Thats what I'm saying, to you and I it maybe alot of money but not a large mail order company. They probably spend that a month in paperclips! It was his choice to spend the money, if they don't give discounts then he should try another vedor, maybe find a cheaper hobby? You realize they get there discount from buying thousands of 1 item and putting it on a shelf hoping all there marketing and advertising will sell them and they will be able to turn a profit after they pay there NORMAL PEOPLE that answer phones, sweep floors and mow the grass. In my book personal use for hobby doesn't desearve a discount.....if its offerd i'de take it but I never expect it.

If you ask for it and they give you the discount, GREAT.....but don't come here and cry about not getting one. They are one of the most reputable companies to deal with:nice:

It's either you guys are too young to realize or just too stupid!

I ended up getting the right person on the phone and spent $2,800. AFTER my 10% PLUS FREE SHIPPING.:nice: :D

You all need to learn from the master!!!!!:hail2: to ME!

We are not too young to understand. Usually young guys are the ones that want the discount and don't understand when they don't get it. Old guys should understand because they have been around the block a few times more than young guys.

Age is just a number, you gotta have experience. Look at Randy Couture. He is 44 and he just pounded Gabrieal Gonzaga who is 16 years younger and almost 40 pounds heavier. But wait, how does MMA compare to buying parts at 50 resto?

Nothing wrong w/ what this guy did so most of you guys need to grow up. He's smart enough to open his mouth and save himself some coin. It's suprising what you can get in life if you not afraid to open you mouth, complain, bitch, ask, kiss ass whatever. If a $3000 order isn't **** to 5.0 resto then neither is giving this guy free shipping and a discount on his order. It's not mom and pops fox resto were dealing with here. A multi million dollar company ant they can afford it..... If it make most of you feel better paying more for the exact same ****.......do it but don't give this guys **** for making things work in his favor.

If you don't think that $3,200 is alot of money than fine. i guess you SH** green!

And yeah I'm gonna post about what the deal is. I was actaully posting to find out if anyone knew the sales manager. that was the reason for the post.

Do you realize how much mark up there is in a lot of what they sell? Not everything, but a lot.

Grow up!

I'll bet they hear it all the time.

" yeah I'm gonna spend this much today, and then this much next month" half the people probably never call back.

Be smart: Save the money till you can spend it all at once, then ask for the discount......I thought you were old and wise?

BTW.....No need for name calling.
