I have been reading a lot, doing my homework. I have come to the conclusion that "most" people prefer the long tube. I am in the process of purchasing a set and just wnat to know if anyone has any experience with the JBA equal length shorties. Will these produce more HP and Torque because of the equal length. Also is it true that bassani is suppose to be coming out with an equal length shorty header. Should I be waiting to see how the #'s are on the shorty. Thanks A Lot

I agree most folks prefer the long tubes. You get more hp on the top of the rpm curve.

However, you have to be willing to spend $700+ to get quality headers like Stainless Works or American Racing headers or JBA's. Also if your state does emissions testing the LT wont pass.

Also the tune is the key to making the LT hp. Some folks have put them on and ended up only making 7-8 hp.

I just ordered the JBA 1 5/8" equal length shortys today from LMR for 479.95 with free shipping for my 05 Mustang.

From the info out there you can expect 10 - 12 hp gain. The JBA web site has dyno results on a 2005 Mustang with a Steeda CAI & SCT tune - UDP - JBA Axel back and the JBA shorty. The stock average hp was 220 and torque was 262. Then with the headers it went to average 237 hp and 283 torque. Difference ia 17hp and 21lbs of torque. I've also seen JBA advertise 20 hp gains on the equal length shortys.

I'll be scheduling a mustang chassis dyno soon after I get them installed. I will post the results. Bottom line you can loose some weight over the OEM headers as well as a min of 5 hp gain, and still be emissions legal.

Thanks, Dewman

Not to mention, EL shorties will also allow you to run a factory style midpipe where as LTs will require a totaly different setup. To me the ELs sound like the best of both worlds unless you want all you can squeeze out of your car.

Hate to break the news to you guys but I had a before and after dyno done on these headers. I got 2rwhp and 3rwtq from the JBA Shorty's. They sound awesome but added virtually no performance gain whatsoever. I do like them however even though they werent what I expected. They make my exhaust setup sound wicked at high rpm.

No problem dude, If you bought them already you wont be disappointed in the sound improvement at high rpm. I love'em but everyone says to buy LT's but then you need to purchase O2 extenders, a midpipe, and risk still throwing codes. Have fun with the headers

Would you happen to have the graph that shows before and after? I don't doubt at all that's all you got, but I'm curious how every thing under peak looks. I don't spend a lot of time at around 5700 RPM's and am curious how the increase looks across the board.

I've seen other sheets posted, but was curious how your sheet looked.

The guy who did my dyno tuning didnt have paper for his printer when I got it done. Unfortunately I'm serious. I paid 100 bucks for a look at his computer. Thats how it works round my part. I took it to another guy who was supposed to custom tune my car and he said that there was nothing he could improve on. Yeah right. I advance my timing myself and definately noticed an improvement. Would have put me over the 300hp mark. That will all be taken care of next week when I get my Zex Nos kit in and install that SOB. 2hp 3tq for $500? I paid about $1200 for my custom nitrous kit and I'm going to be pushing 450-500 hp with this kit. Wheew!@!!:flag: :nice:

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I've heard changing the position/place of your cats is what makes LT's unstreetable. Using LT's with a catted mid pipe moves your cats further down the exhaust path. Such a petty law . The use of high flow cats, even in the stock location, could also be non-street legal. It all depends how strict your state laws are.

In Oho, they check for codes and then put a mirror under the car to make sure you have cats as a visual inspection, however, the guy's and gals that work there make 6.25 an hour and probobly wouldn't even know where the stock location is. Is there anyone on here from Oho that live in one of the 7 counties that have e-check with LT headers?

Long tubes require the use of an aftermarket mid-pipe. Some of these have cats and some don't. The cats are moved further down the vehicle. Even if you buy one with cats you may throw codes. The use of mil eliminators most of the time eliminates the codes but if you have to be tested for emissions the car may still fail. It's really a hit or miss. Maybe someone with Longtubes will chime in here with their experience.
