I have a 2001 GT with a vortech @ 10psi. Put the blower on at 50k, now have 80k...never once had any problems at all. I change the oil regularly and do all normal maintenance. Its all in the tune as many will attest to. And of course i dont drive around and redline everywhere I go either :). I hope this helps, Honestly it drives just like it did without it until you get into the boost.

How often are you hitting boost?
 
It depends on the engine health in the first place. If you slap on a blower and the engine compression is really low, then you will most likely kill the engine with boost. But if the engine is healthy to begin with, you will be fine. I have almost 82k miles, running 10lbs of boost. But I have the car tuned conservatively.
 
I run 11PSI and change the oil every 5K in the SC. KB say every 10K. I am rarely make more than 4-5 pounds of boost during normal driving, No WOT. The only time my car see's the full boost is at the track.
 
In addition to the above, look at all the cars that come factory stock with turbos/superchargers. They wouldnt do it knowing people are beating on them and ruin company reputation when thousands of cars all have blown motors. Also, they set the tune on those cars conservative, as is the same you should do when you add one without a built motor.
 
How much abuse can a built motor take. Lets say a 99-04 stang with a KB running at 9-11psi making around 450-550rwhp. How far can you push your tune with a built motor. Lets assume the motor is not a race engine, but an entry level built motor from a reputable shop.
 
well, i hope the built motors will hold up. im gonna try to push 15psi through a built engine, and hope it lasts for a long time. it should as the builders told me it could handle more boost and power then what i plan to make....we will see.

It just depends on the parts used. Usually you want to do it right the first time. Meaning, getting an engine that can withstand huge amounts of power. That way you won't have to worry about blowing the engine at 550whp. I like the MMR 900 short block. That should withstand about 700whp. If you have that much power, I doubt it will be a DD street car:nice:
 
Kind of what everyone else said. Get it tuned conservative and don't abuse it. I specifically asked my tuner to put a safe tune on it (stock block).

I have an SCT tuner which has three tunes. Every day driving, agressive street and drag tune. I normally use the every day driving tune (but still run high octane). If I'm out on a saturday night I may bump it up to the agressive setting but only after I've put my MT drag radials on. It makes no sense to bump the power up when I'm shreading the tires through the gears anyways.

The other thing is to make SURE you maintain your car. It is critical to monitor and change the fluids at recommended intervals. This means everything, SC, motor, transmission, rear-end, etc......You will be putting a strain on the high end of the engineered stress levels your car will take. Make sure you maintain it.

I rarely take it to redline on the street. Only at the track.

If you maintain it and keep it off the rev limiter you should be fine!
