Post your catch can setups

I was hoping you all could share your catch can/breather tank setups as I am looking into installing one soon. Also, is anyone running a setup that has a drainback hose with a checkvalve running back into the oil pan? (so you don't have to empty the can manually)

Thanks in advance!

This is my setup. I only have one on my PCV line. I recently rerouted the hose and separator behind the plenum for a cleaner look. I have been curious about puting a breather on the driver side valve cover.. I just want to clean up under the hood as much as possible!

Maybe someone else will chime in...

And now with the Bullitt intake, which you can see it hanging by the passenger strut tower.....

I empty mine every other week roughly, once it gets 1/4 full, that is when i like to empty it.
As for the cam covers, they are the stock ones.In the first 2 pics, they are my stockers that came on my GT,and i made those plates for them, and the last 2 pics are Ford stockers that i got from the wreckers cause i needed the oil fill on the driver side, and made plates for them aswell.:)

1low03gt,

I use the same type of home made (i.e., "Husky" compressed air filter) catch can.

I recommend removing the foam filter from inside -it'll eventually get clogged up with oil.

Also, you can put a copper or stainless steal mesh pad inside (something like "chore boy" -you can find them in supermarkets). It will provide a larger surface area to catch the oil, and will improve the efficiency of the catch can

Thanks for the tip,i will check into this.:nice:
So far it has worked pretty good. When i took off my stock intake to start my Bullitt intake swap the inside of my stock upper plenum, and stock throttle body are still mint,no oilly gummy film what so ever, and that is going on 2 years with the catch can.:)

I think air/water seporators are just a band aid. Once the little filter inside becomes clogged it just sends the oil straight through.

I tee both valve covers togeather then I run that into a 1 qt vented plastic catch bottle that has a breather filter and drain on the bottom. I might get an 0z or 2 once every couple months

I capped off the plenum and the power pipe.

This is what I been using for about 10 months. My Intercooler and piping are bone dry.

Do you have any pictures of this setup?? Did you have to modify the tune? since you arent returning the air back into the intake?

SilverBullet00....check that aluminum peice you have connecting your radiator hose up there. My 2001 GT motor had one like that which the previous owner used to tap a water temp guage into. I took it off, to change it all back to stock, and that aluminum peice was completely corrodded with oxidation. It was almost completely shut. The antifreeze must have oxidized it because it wasn't factory. I took the T-stat off, and all that crap was sitting on top of it. I took the water pump off, and that was the only thing that was clean.

In my 1995 Talon TSI AWD turbo, I use fram fuel filter to catch oils, and change it out every time oils change ( only $2-$3 at walmart ) I dont know its work the same way as the mustang, I show you the pix on the talon if I can find it.

Edit : Here its, cant find my car pix, this is friend car ( guy that show me how to do it ).

Jivepepper's method is probably the best way to keep oil out of the intake.

But in blower set-ups, I heard that there are benefits in having the the blower sucking on the crankcase -I don't remember the reason exactly, but it was something like it helps to seal the rings...

Anyone know if there's any truth to this, or is it BS?

Well it can help set the rings, But it really doesn't pull that much. I did leave pcv hooked up when I first broke in the new motor using separators. The when I felt it was broke in enough, I switched to the catch can.
