Hats off to the Founding Old Fogies

I don't remember when I joined...or even how far back I joined the .org mailing list.

btw...II's are all in the garage or under car covers and I'm daily driving a 2005 GT now, which is making it hard to even justify having the 351W II anymore.

I do seem to remember meeting up with George and driving to Portland to visit Lance and Dan a whole bunch of years ago though. One of the last things I remember doing with my old '74, aside from the night of showing off that spelled the end of C4 #3 which prompted the drivetrain removal and end of the car, to later be reborn as the '78 T-Top with a more difficult to break 5 spd.

1998!!!

Geeze, we ARE a bunch of old geezers...except of course, you're only as old as you feel.

And in the immortal words of David Lee Roth..."I don't FEEL tardy" (from the song "Hot for Teacher"). :rlaugh:

Other than the fact that I don't have the expendable cash for a new(er) Mustang, it would kind of duplicate the one "sports car" that I do have money for, so, sorry Ford, I won't be getting that new 2008 Mustang this year.

Serge, Lee, Frank, Dave, Todd, Tod, Phil, Nick, The other Dave (L), DIANE D, how the hell could I forget Diane. Bob, Bernie, ...

What ever happened to these guys? They still post via the mailing list? Wonder if some wandered to the .net site....

Only a small percentage of the Mustangs at any of the recent MCA shows that I have attended were II's. When I worked at the MCA 30th Anniversary show here in Birmingham in 2006 only 5 of the 2000 Mustangs were II's. When I attended the Mustang 40th Anniverasry show in Nashville in 2004, only about 12 of the 3000 Mustangs were II's. All of those present were really excellant examples of the breed, but the numbers were a little thin and I hope to at least add one of my two.
We've got a couple good All ford meets here. Nothing the MCA would stack up to but a couple of the largest Mustang-Ford meets in the area. Clark College's Mustang show and the All ford Show and Swapper in Hillsboro, OR. Always some guy that brings up 3 flawlessly restored IIs, 2 cobras and a Mach1 to that Hillsburrito show. One of these days I'll be there with my II....

boy I'm glad I'm not one of the old farts here....or am I?
I suppose that is decided upon how long it takes you to get out of bed in the morning.:D

Eh, i wasn't at that shin-dig. I was busy playing Airman, workin on C130s in Albuquerque. Didn't have my blue fastback yet but i drove out my Black '78 T-Top Cobra to NM and drove it daily. I was soooo pissed that I missed that git-together.:(

That would have been 1998. I remember it well! It was shortly after that meet that my '77 got parked and hasn't run since. I sure miss driving it, rotten luck that something else always needs work before that one.
I've been meaning to ask you, and especially since you have an '05 GT, what's up with the Mitsubishi? Wife/girlfriend's car? :D

A few of that group do still post on the mailing list. Haven't heard from Diane in a while. A lot of the old group pop in once a year or so just to say hello.
I've never even heard of the All Ford Show in Hillsboro. How could I have missed that? I even drove up to Bellevue for the big show last July.
It's funny that we've never met, Dano. Even though you missed the get together in '98, we've been in the same neck of the woods for a long damn time!

Yeah that's odd that we haven't crossed paths yet. I've hauled 3 different Cobra IIs across the I-5 bridge, 1 that the old man has now. Even remeber a couple of Kings I went over to look at years back. I moved back up here in 2001, and have since bought at least 6 or 7 Mustang IIs since then. Not to mention my usual haunts for II parts/cars-- Portland Auto Wrecking, U-pull-it U-save in Boring, OR., Damascus U-pull-it, and Sergeants Towing public auctions.

That show in Hillsboro is usually around the 1st part of June. June 7th this year to be exact. Forever Fords out of LaCenter, WA and Galaxies NW out of Washougal put it on. It started out mainly as an all Ford swap meet, and use to be really big. They later added the car show and now, honestly, the car show is overruning the swap meet!

The other meet is here in Vancouver, and is put on by Mustangs Unlimited of Vancouver, use to be at Clark College, but don't quote me on that. Shows Aug 2, 2008 for this year's meet.

Who was the 4th person that was there then Lance? I guess it must not have been Dano... 10 years is beyond my capability of remembering things, especially names.

and, yes, I realize the join date appears on the post AFTER you've submitted the post.

Mitsubishi Eclipse was my "dream" car since high school ... even though the Chrysler Laser was the closest thing that existed back then. I got a screaming deal on it and with the mods I've done since buying it, it's as fast as the '05 Mustang but not as comfortable to fit in. Strangely though, it only gets 2mpg better than the Mustang for my commute and requires premium fuel vs. the regular I can run in the Mustang.

Oh yeah, that show! I go to that one every year, but it's been held at the Vancouver Mall the last few years. Don't think I ever went when it was at the college. I'll be sure to catch the Hillsboro one this year.

His name is also Dan, just a different Dan. He went by DanTheManMain, or something similar. His II wasn't running, and he showed up in his luxo barge, I think it was a Continental?

I should have my King back together and running by the end of May, it will look like crap, but it should run like a beast. It would be fun to take it to a show or two just to pop the hood...

We're gonna have to pair up and roll in together. :nice: Dunno if I am gonna pull off the Hillsburrito show, but should be able to make the one at the mall in Aug. Either way I'll still be "at" both shows, just without a II. Mine won't be any beauty queen either. I had the car in one of those 'Auto Shades' durring that '04 snowstorm. Needless to say the shade is no more and it clobbered the hell out of my car. Certainly not 'snow load' rated!! That, and I need to hang a RH rear 1/2 quarter panel from an accident that happened at the end of '03.....toss in some rugs... would like to re-upholster the pinto hi-backs i have.... etc... :p

i have been out of the picture for a few years. new job is bringing more time at home and more time for the king. driven a total of 127 miles in the past 2 years. threw a rod bearing in it after the t-5 install. rebuilt the short block for a possible sale of the car but it just hasn't happen yet. when the weather changes for the better she goes back together.

i am also listed on the org and the net site around the same date as i am here.

I haven't been involved on the II forums/lists as long as some of you guys have, but I've been scouring the net for all things "II" since about the mid 90s (not much on there back then).

I can remember that Todd Mitchell and Brian Seather were two of my first "II" internet influences.

It's nice to see that this small community still sticks around for the most part, even if some here don't own IIs anymore.
