I had an 89 hatch a couple years ago, it was a pos. I should have done more research and looked more before I bought it.

EventuallyI want to build another. I never even got to run my 89 at the track. I build a GT40P headed 302 with an F cam backed with a crap T5. I didnt really know what I was getting into.

Anyway, my goal is to have another fox. I dont care if its a rolling car or what. I just want one that is in better shape than my last. I want a street/strip car, probably 50/50.

How hard would it be to get low 12's? I just want it to be street legal enough to enjoy on the weekends, but I want to be able to run 8.0's or so in the 1/8th.

Im thinking a 351/C4 might do it depending on what I build. Basically I would be on a pretty tight budget, but I am in no hurry so I could have time to save for what I need. I would like to bracket race it sometimes if that makes a difference.

I have a buddy that wants to build a 383 chevy c10 for the track, and I want to have him covered.

Sorry this is so long, but I have one more tech question. Say I had a 5.0L motor. What is needed to change from the factory hydraulic roller to a solid roller or even just a solid flat tappet cam?

Thanks for the help and suggestions,

Joey

reomove intake> remove spyder hold down plate> remove dog bones and lifters> remove hydro cam then install solid lifters and cam. done.

8.0s?

with a c4 its around 260rwhp depending on the 60ft obviously. I have seen as low as 84mph go 8.0s . . .

I would get a late model 351 with a roller setup.

find a used set of aluminum heads for under a grand (twisted wedge, windsor jr lites, possibly AFR or RPMs.)
trick flow stage 2
RPM intake
650 holley

it would probably run in the 7s with little thought and would be pretty inexpensive. There are thousands of different ways to run high 7s/low 8s.

You can run low 8s high 7s with a h/c/i 302. Also need supporting components like any other motor, other induction parts, suspension, and knowing how to drive the car, and know how the car responds to certain driving. A stroked 302 should out perform a 351, but a stroked 351 should be a blast.

Ive seen bolt on stangs with stock heads and intake with 150 shot running in the 7s.

Not sure about that chevy and how it would run. If your wanting to bracket race alot, and win, an auto is the way to go.

I would personally like to have a 460/c6 in my next fox to bracket race with.
