Hey guys,

I am probably going to paint my brake calipers over the next few weekends. I'm trying to decide what color I want to go with. My car is Alloy, so I'm thinking either red or yellow, or possibly even a bright-ish blue. Any thoughts or alternate color suggestions?

I found this one thread that shows a guy put the pony on his calipers, but I'm not sure if I like it enough for my own car. http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=586113&highlight=paint+calipers

Lets see your pictures!

EDIT: A couple afterthoughts... I will be keeping my stock 18" fanblades (with the factory painted dark grey pockets) for the life of the car if that makes a difference with your opinions.

Also, what is the recommended torque when I put the wheels back on? Do you think the wheels will offer enough protection from crap sticking to the paint while it is drying? I only have one jack (and no jack stands), so I really need to put the wheel back on while the caliper is drying...

Umm, what color is stock?

No offense man, but I honestly wouldn't pay anything for painted calipers. Put that money away towards the FRPP 14" brake kit.

The cost is like 15 bucks at Autozone. It would take a lot of those to pay for a brake kit. Doh! Okiewan beat me to it!

My car is Alloy, and I painted mine red, with Mustang decals on the front. I really like how they turned out.

I'll try to get a pic in a day or so, it snowed again today so my wheels look like hell right now.

You really do need to let the paint dry for at least two hours before you put the wheel back on....the paint is tacky and you WILL end up touching the caliper with the wheel while you're putting it back on. And pick up another paint brush from a hobby shop or Wal-mart...the brush that comes with the Duplicolor kit sucks, and will fall apart before you get all 4 calipers done. There's enough paint there to do at least two cars, though.

Lug nuts should be torqued to 100 ft lbs. And recheck after 50 miles or so.

Edit-here's a pic, like I said, it snowed today, so the car's filthy.

Yup, that $16.00 for a caliper paint kit will put a nice dent in the brake kit cost :nice:

A penny saved... lol, yeah I know, basically, it's just not worth the pain of it all for me. And to be honest, those brakes will never look as good as a big brake kit. But that $1400 aside:rolleyes:

Seriously, with the alloy (and you know I like that color), I would go with a dark color probably black. I don't know what colors they have, but I wouldn't choose a gray over black. Matching the car color would kind of break the visual line for me. When I look at the car I want to see the brakes but not really differentiate them from the wheels (the black will blend in behind the wheel better), that way the eye isn't drawn from the car to the brakes as you look down it. Then again, I could be crazy.

A big brake kit will never happen on my car - especially when like everyone is saying, painting the calipers will only be $15-20... I'd put the money towards an S/C if I were to spend that much.

Alloy - I'll be very interested to see a full pic of the car with the brakes. Where did you get your stencil/decal?

These are mine in red. In retrospect, I would have done them alloy or silver simply because any oblique photo has the red calipers reflecting brightly in the chrome rims so bear that in mind.
I bought the decals off ebay but the guy doesn't sell them anymore - another victim of Ford's copyright threats.

Stangdude, there is a NVMC meeting this Saturday and they will be talking more about the powdercoat company that is on board:nice: I'm seriously thinking about having my wheels and calipers done. I'd say go for a dark color. I'm thinking black for the calipers on mine.
Dawg, I would do black on yours as well to go with the black wheels on the GO:nice:

Kooldawg, I saw one of the guys mention the powdercoating company on the other board. I'm 99% going to the meeting tomorrow, so I'll definitely find more about it.

Poopdawg, I also vote that black would probably look best. Body color may be a little too gaudy on a Grabber Orange car...

nice i wouldnt mind doing this some day, but i hear the paint can start chipping or flaking no?

That's the Duplicolor kit. Mine chipped, too. I've heard a lot of people's that did. When the '05 was in getting the Eleanor kit put on, I had them professionally do the calipers with high-temp paint.

I just ordered the G2 kit for my '07. Everyone that has used that kit says it holds up MUCH better than the duplicolor kit, and comes in more colors. I got it from wheelskin.com

For the Alloy, I'd say red. For the Grabber Orange, I'd say either orange (it matches very closely) or silver. I know, the stock caliper is silver, but this makes them look better.

Alloy - I'll be very interested to see a full pic of the car with the brakes. Where did you get your stencil/decal?

Here ya go...light wasn't too good, and the car is still pretty dirty.

I think I got the decals from the same guy LV51fer did...his site has a link you click on for Mustang decals, which takes you to a page stating that Ford made him stop making them.

They will chip over time...my rears have a couple of chips from getting the tires rotated, but they're easy to touch up, and as I said earlier, the kit has plenty of paint. Just save the leftover to touch them up.

That looks good, alloy. It looks a lot like the 01 Bullitt brake calipers.

Thanks! I really like them. :)
