Rotors: Best Bang for $$

1999 Cobra 67k w/ orig brakes...

Have the Hawk HPS Pads on the way and looking into replacing all 4 rotors as well, OEM size no real preference on style.

Anyone have/had any luck with ProSlot vs ProStop? Brembo Blanks vs Brembo Sport Slotted? FRPP? Good place to shop online? -$500 would be best.

Looking for a moderate street use no real track or autocross, like i said keep it OEM size just upgrade brand.

I have the stock rotors with new OEM pads and my father has EBC pads with FRPP drilled/slotted rotors and braided lines. His brakes feel 10x better than mine and have almost no fade at all. My car can still stop shorter but I think thats cause mine is a few hundred pounds lighter

I'm sorry, and not to get off track here, but does your signature say, "20k in bolt ons and 19" HREs 447.53 rwhp 459.96 rqtq"?

How is that even possible? What could you have done to the car for 20k and still only have CAI/pulley/tune power?

Am I missing something here or is there somethign wrong with your car?

When we bought the car it came with all reciepts. I added everything together than deducted the tire replacement, maintenence and the rim lip replacement for dammage and the nose repaint and its just over 20 grand with the wheels.
Not to hijack the thread but here is the breakdown. ALOT of the stuff was done in 03 so prices may have changed a little. Also note the car has a VERY safe tune in it and was maximized for MPG. Im glad cause at 447rwhp the car is too much. Passed a car yesterday at 90mph in fourth and could not go WOT cause the ass was walkin :nonono: so the 482 the car had before retune must of been scarry. I have only driven a car this powerful once on a racetrack (750hp Henessy Viper) so all this time I wanted big power I have now discovered it not anywhere usable on the street

Hey you replied to me thinking that I was the one with 20 k into my car . I reread the posting and its LaserSVT that has 20k in his car not mine. 20k lotts of money in mods thats some cash ola ..lol

I'm kinda dumb. :)

He Pm'd me. It's a lot, but damn...

Total: 15k. :p

5k is wheels and tires. (Which He should take off the car, since they're so ugly, and send them to me.)

OH, and he's got the Steeda shocks and struts listed twice. ;)

Nice car though, both of you. :D

Damn n00b :fuss:
JK
yeah like I said too I misprinted the labor at 1G when all together it was 5G, glad I do all my own work :nonono:

I would have to agree with you LaserSVT.

Anything over 400RWHP is crazy for the street. My 96 Cobra has 414RWHP, and that is more than enough. I have taken many cars I have raced. Of course I have gotten stomped by a few high end AMG Mercedez Benz, (100K+)I got beat by my tuners, brothers 97 Cobra making over 600RWHP.....and I tell ya....for 600RWHP...he sure wasn't very far ahead of me. I jumped him from a dead stop and he didn't pass me till I got well into third gear. He said he was spinning badly. What good is HP if you are spinning your tires while the other guys is gripping??

The money difference we both have into our cars is MUCH different and the distance he beat me by doesn't justify spending the extra cash.

Besides...I heard later that year the car blew up. Stock 97 Cobra block/heads, 16.5psi of boost, and race gas.

There was a guy at the last get together that had over 700+ rwhp and had it at 966 but "setteled" for 700ish and he said my fathers would take him to 60 or so but after he could get a bit mor traction he would fly past. 400ish at the wheels is more than I could ever use, hell at 100 in 4th in the termi at 70% throttle will light its tires :nonono:

did we derail this thread yet :D

I agree. My Dad's GT500 is stock with what 500bhp. That thing rips the tires up, but not as bad as I thought it would. The suspension really works for the car.

When we race, I have no chance from a dig. We raced from a 45 roll which I took him til about 70MPH then he reeled me in. We raced at a 70MPH roll...and I dropped it into 3rd and took off....he wasn't reeling on me this time. A true race will be at the track, and I know I'll come out on top because I drag raced for a few years. My Dad has never been. He has driven Nascars before, so I know he'll get the hang of it quick, but he still won't be as hard on his new car as I will my old one.

Overall, both cars are fun and have enough power for the both of us. How much faster do you really want to get to the next red light?

I recently purchased a pair of zinc coated 13" cross drilled and slotted rotors on Ebay from Rotorworks for less than my Hawk HPS pads. They look and work great, and are hard to beat based on bang for the buck. I previously had Brembo drilled and slotted rotors, but so far these perform better (may be due to the pads). Whatever rotors anyone chooses, I would recommend zinc coated since my previous rust in the center and looked terrible.

slotted and cross drilled brakes are really overrated. if you bed a set of cobra rotors and hawk pads properly you should be fine, your car will stop very well.
