well i primed the crap out of the motor had lots of oil pressure started cranking and it was turning over good but no start so i removed the distributer and put the #1 piston at tdc and the hb at 0 and put the ditributer back in crank it it fired then stalled didit again it just cranked and the motor started to get tighter now it feels to hard to turn with the jonson bar its in nuetral and no belt on what could make it get so tight is that nomal for a new motor ?

I had a similar problem as yours. When I bolted up my flywheel is was rubbing against the oil pan not allowing it to spin freely. Once I fixed that it still wouldn't turn. It ended up being the (4) bolts that hold the tranny to the bellhousing that were causing a misalignment in the input shaft. I left the bolts a little loose at first and it worked. With the time it got better until I was able to tighten them completely. Check it out.

not the bellhousing to block bolts, the tranny to bellhousing bolts. Just an idea, loosen them a bit and try cranking the engine until you get a full rotation. If that works, then slowly tighten them until it doesn't spin anymore, then loosen again.

Pull the plugs so you can tell if you're fighting compression or have an interference issue. It'll be easier to hear any issues when cranking it by hand with no plugs too.

Good luck.

I had taken out both, tranny and motor. Yes, what I am saying is loosen it up to relieve some pressure and see if that works. After the motor turned, it got better and I was able to tightened it completely.

so i took the plugs out and its still tight .were the bell housing joins to the block i can see the bearing up there so thats what is causing the prob not joined right hope is the right pilot bearing they gave me ?,now should i take the motor and trans out togather or motor out or just pop the trans off what is going to be the easyest ,and most effecint remember its on ramps in my drivre way ????thanks for your advice guys ps i do have an engine crane

well i am going to pull the motor back out tonight i hope that when i take it out and pull the plugs out its turnes freely its brand new never even fired and like i said i primed the **** out of it a new engine should not seize just from cranking would it ??? if so i will be taking it back and theywill be giving me a new one ... i just hope that the trand was not lined right ?pilot bearing not seated right ?i hope but it cranked over fine then got tight after cranking it for iod say 20 cranks but it was building oil pressure whgile i was cranking as well so i dont knoe how i could do bearing damage ?

If it was priming well, it should not have seized.

I wouldnt have pulled the engine so quick. With no plugs and turning the motor backwards and forwards (I bet it goes backwards ok, giving you some room to turn it forward), you could narrow down the point of interference.

Good luck with it bud.

well i just pulled the motor and pulled the plugs back out and took the belt off its hanging on the crane and its still way to tight and it squeaks wqhen its turned over so WTF......this is a brand new motor never even fired and was very well primed with a drill in reverse till the drill almost caught fire like 1 to 2 min ?read 65 on the oil pressure guage .so what happend ,trush bearing ?well i guess i should take it back ??
