DFX holding power

I installed a DFX when I upgraded to the Whipple. It lasted roughly 800 miles even after a proper break in. The driveability really was never that great compared to similar clutches I've had. Overall I haven't heard too many good things about it.

After the DFX died, I had Ellis put in a SPEC Stage III+ and it was / has been very good. The driveability is much improved for a clutch of its kind and has lasted ~12k so far of occasional hard driving.

I would buy a SPEC S3 again, and had one in my GT as well. So I recommend to go that route from my experiences.

I will take your word on this then. I really wanted the twin dics Mcleod but thats like 800 bucks!......

Spec has been very good for us as well, but I would recommend highly that you go to Ford and purchase a throwout bearing from them. We have seen a lot of Spec and other aftermarket throwouts go bad quickly, where the stock 03 cobra units hold up excellent. It is fully compatible with the fox.

And before a numbers guy pops in and says the bearing number on the spec unit is the same as the bearing number on the 03 Cobra, while you would be correct, there is a huge difference in durability for some reason. I almost wonder if the Specs are knockoff's.

just got off the phone with Bob and it sounds like it is the trans. those of you that posted about having good luck with spec must have gotten a batch of good ones. I will not use them anymore as most of the ones we have installed were completely junk after roughly a year of driving and between 10 and 13k miles on them. I know of other shops that will not use them either. Not sure about the longevity of the dfx as this is the only one i have ever installed as that is what the customer asked for. only time will tell .
