what to do with the engine?

So my buddy got home the other week from paris island, I see hin today. he wants to drive my 5.0, he's not the best driver in the world, cant really drive a 5 speed that great, but does ok. So I let him drive around with me inside the sar, he finds an old street and lays in it, now I have 4.10's and bald tires, it spins really bad as it is. So he punches it and it spins, but he dosent even try to hit second, he rides out first until he's been on the limiter for a good 5seconds, then hits second. I mean the car wasnt even spinning anymore when he hit second. Anyway I was screaming at him, but he didnt budge his foot. So he pulls over i tell him to get the **** out of my car and I pop the hood, because i now have a VERY loud knocking noise, and my oil press is at 15psi.

The damn thing wont rev over 3k and now smokes like a chimney, and is shaking really badly, and at cruise it makes around 20-25psi of oil pressure when 5 mins earlier it made 60psi.

anyway he's going to pay for a new engine, so I have two options here.

rebuild my 5.0 block that possibly needs machined and god knows what else. (at least 2 weeks to get all the parts and machining done)

OR put my 351 block in there and just rebuild the shortblock, it doesnt have but like 40k miles on it with forged trw's and good rods. (new rings bearings, go to summit and get the oil pan and dist, couple days maybe?)

Let me know what you guys would do, besides kill the guy..

IMO, I'd sell the 351, salvage the 302, and do a 460. But wtf does a sammich noes. You all live once. :shrug:
 
that sucks dude, some kid i knew in highschool is coming home from afghanistan in a few weeks and he wants to drive my car... im gonna try to break it before he gets here lol b/c there is no way im letting anyone drive my car.

if i were you ide rebuild the 302 and stroke it
 
If I was your buddy, I'd tell you to stick any option but a rebuild of your stocker, or a replacement with another used 5.0L with similar mileage in your ear. It sucks that he popped your engine, but its not justification for you to hose him into paying for a stroker set up that would cost 3-times as much to put together.

If you want to build beyond stock, have it taken to a machine shop, get an estimate (in front of him) as to how much it would cost to rebuilt it to stock condition, then get your buddy to cut you a checque for that amount.....then make up the difference for the stroker yourself. :nice:

+1. as harsh as it sounds, you made the choice and took the risk. you knew he wasn't a good driver before tossing him the keys. I 100% agree that he should fix what he broke, but he doesn't deserve to buy you a ford GT for breaking your 5.0

If you already have the 351 it wouldnt be a bad idea to go that route. They are stronger blocks and will handle a lot more power. Try and get him to fork up half the money for the lower end. Kinda have a feeling if he held it on the limiter for 5 seconds and now you think you have a rod knocking it was in its way out long before he sat in the drivers seat. Is this your daily?
 
If you were really his buddy you would not try to build your car on his tab. Rebuild what you have to the specs it is at or have him give you the money that it would cost to do so then you man up and pay the remaining amount to build your own engine for your car.
