I was thinking about tryin to go through ford to get a fully functional shaker hood, so it wont void my warrenty. Will the gains be worth the costs? If not how about the CAI that ford installs on the bullit? Also will an axle back borla exhaust void my warrenty

if i were you id give brenspeed or bamachips a call. get either a jlt or c&l with a SCT tuner. will cost less than a fully functional shaker hood and give you good gains. then if you have to take the car in you could swap and put your factory intake back on and return your computer to stock in less than half a hour

I'd have to agree with BLAKDOUT on this one...while the Shaker hood system looks cool as hell, it's not going to give you the gains you could get from a tune and a CAI, plus it costs less to get CAI/tuner combo...the only thing you don't get is that Mach I look...incidentally the Shaker system on that car is not the only thing that makes it so great.
I see where you're coming from though, the shaker's got a combo affect on a car junkie..it looks sick and is fun as hell to install...good luck

the shaker doesnt offer any real power. i know i have my first mustang, but a good friend of mine had a shaker on his 06 and said it wasnt worth the cash...
he had to get a new hood because the mustang originally came with a shaker hood... but the hole wouldnt line up... so he paid about 600 for a new hood... then 700 for the shaker system...
dyno showed no power gains at all because it doesnt really kick in until 50mph+... even then, it still just feeds to whatever intake you have... it doesnt go straight into the throttle.
these cars are designed to pick up cool air from the ground now... you dont catch much with a hood scoop anymore.

My shaker was installed at the dealer. More show than go, but, is great looking. Mine has been routed in my CAI, so, I can say it is still "funtional". I would spend the money elsewhere if I had to do it again. The upside= cool looks, not everyone has one.

I owned an 03 Mach 1. I spoke to an engineer from Ford's Mustang team back when the car came out about the ram effect of the Shaker scoop and was told that Ford saw a 25hp increase in power with the Shaker, but only at speeds over 80 mph where you would actually be going fast enough for the ram effect to kick in. At lower speeds it's just a really cool looking CAI with no tangible power gains.
I'm kinda surprised an engineer said that. I've seen the way my buddies mach 1 intake is setup, and I simply do no't believe it did anything other than funnel cold air to the filter, which does help.
I just don't believe the ram air concept really works, maybe something from a well made cowl induction, but even then I have serious doubts. The best gain will be from a well designed intake with little restriction and access to plenty of cool air, which some ram air systems do.

What made the Mach 1's bad-ass wasn't the Shaker system; it was the 32V engine. If you like the look; go for it. I think a regular CAI/tune would be cheaper and better; and you don't have to cut a hole in your hood!

I did a little experiment in my 1968 Pontiac GTO way back when. It was a standard HO motor and NOT a Ram Air model. However, you can unbolt the caps in the twin scooped hood and feed cold, rammed air right into the air cleaner. So, I tried it capped and open at our local dragstrips several times each one day, and went two tenth quicker in the 1/4 mile consistently with the ram air opened up.
And, over at 2003-2004 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Owner's Club & Registry Website (where I've been a member since 2002, having owned a brand new 2003 Mach 1 for several years), there have been threads occasionally about guys who've gone to the track and done back to back runs with a plug closing off the Shaker scoop vs wide open and there's typically a few tenths difference in 1/4 mile ET's. 10hp is usually good for a tenth, so this tells me the Shaker is probably good for 20-30hp, which jives with what that Ford engineer told me several years back.
