Disassembly of Rear Calipers

Hi,

I'm in the process of removing all 4 calipers to get them powder coated. Once removed from the car (easy part) I have to strip them completely (because of the heat in the chamber for curing the powder paint).

The front calipers are straight forward, however the rear calipers are a little more difficult. I'm just not sure on how to remove the rotating bracket on the back side. Does anyone know how to disassemble them or have an exploded view of them? That would be a great help. I can see a clip inside but not sure of how it will come apart once removed. Bellow is a picture of the bracket and an inside view of the caliper.

Not sure about total disassembly but the "clip" is a snap ring. You will need some snap ring pliers. They have two points that fit into those two small holes on the clip: when you squeeze the pliers it will squeeze the clip together allowing you to pull it out. These can be found at any auto parts store. There are inside snap rings and outside but most will allow you to remove both types. Hope that helps some.

I knew that but was unsure about what would happen when I remove the clip. It seemed like it was holding down the parking brake spring loaded assembly. I was afraid that once that clip is removed, the assembly would fly out with the spring pressure.

Well I figured that at this stage I should just go ahead and take the clip out. Turns out that it's holding down the enclosed assembly and no spring popping out. Only needed to remove the bracket with a 2 jaw puller and voila, the caliper is disassembled, ready to go to powder coat.

Thanks for your feedback, guess I was looking for someone to tell me "go ahead and do it".
