Should I delete my ABS?

So by your argument we should all pull our ABS off because it didn't work out so well for you?

His argument would be considered anecdotal evidence. In the event you can't use controlled braking to avoid locking the wheels up, ABS will help you. Dumb people are seemingly abundant on the road now adays, so it's probably a safe bet to keep it.

That being said you can do just fine without it, too. I did so for years before I sold my Cobra. All in all it really is your choice. It does help sometimes, and could be the difference between running into something/someone.

Argue no, provide some different perspenctive you better believe it. There are lots of younger guys who come here for advice and I think they deserve both sides of the argument. This subject of ABS has come up before in previous threads and the concensus that I have gotten from them is that its ok to pull the ABS off because its heavy, takes up room, its ugly and there are those who have been driving without it for years. Im sorry but these are not good reasons for removing it. JMO If this is going to be a car that is gonna see a lot of track time or road course use then removal might make more sense.

The ABS was put there for a reason and that reason was to help you stay in control. You your self said that your system wasn't working and your car locked up and as a result hit an suv. Maybe if the system had been working you might have avoided that accident. You want to remove your ABS thats your business all Im saying is if this car is a daily driver, you should think about it first. It just might save you and your car.
 
Lol. I fell off my chair after reading that. To Red and everyone else, my car didn't even give me the satisfaction of a "turtle crunch" lol. It just locks up and SMASHOLA. :notnice:

As you can see in my sig I have had a lot of cars (not that u guys haven't) and its bad. I haven't read the whole article but there are some types of anti-lock that nearly never goes off. Some thing like the 2x4 anti-lick. Like only th rear wheels are functional. I have heard of at least 2 people dying in our model car because it just went right off the road when if it had working anitlock they could have steered right. Now I am not getting into a discussion about driving habits...Thats another topic.

All my other cars the pedal rumbles and you can steer and it dont lock up. When I was behind that SUVY, I steered right and the car went straight... the whole way and I did not have time to pump.:nono:

Yea... i chouldnt steer to avoid either.... Luckly there was noone ahead of me... my opinion stands with yours. The system sucks... and my bay looks too good for that ugly ass heavy box
 
Your argument is ridiculous. News flash buddy you can be the best driver in the world, if you drive on the street you have to deal with idiots. Just today some dumb blonde on the phone pulled right out in front of me.
Didn't even look, if she had she would have crapped her pants because I was almost on top of her. ABS saved her ass and mine. The ABS system in the mustang is not the best but I'll take it over nothing. I have driven with and without in a sn95, trust me there is a difference. If you can improve the crappy performance of the stock motor you can improve the crappy performance of the stock brakes.

Relax man, if a dumb blonde pulls out in front of me, then she gets to pay for my repairs. I give myself distance so I do not cause an accident by rear ending someone. I upgraded to Cobra brakes with 13" rotors since my ABS was already shot, so my stopping power isnt too horrible, at least better than stock anyway. Im not one to argue on the internet, but there is such thing as personal opinion you know.
 
Good points I have to say I have never used the ABS besides messing with it in the snow... it has come on for no reason when i hit a bump in the road while braking during a rainstorm and the car wouldn't stop. I don't know... if i can move it out of the way far enough I may keep it but if not I guess that'll make my decision
 
i ditched mine and haven't looked back

i deleted my ABS awhile back so i figured i would post up pics for the rest of u guys to see since this seems to be coming up alot lately. i deleted mine to clean up the engine bay and i never drive my car in the rain. once deleted, the bulb wont come on. a few things to know.
-i didin't have to buy any extra line, i had more than enough left over when i was done
-i spent about $5 in parts (a 3/16th tee, a few 3/16th tubing nuts, and a union)
-this was very time consuming
-requires the use of a double flaring tool. i'm not that great at using it so it took me some time and practice to get the flares right
now the pics. in the first pic u can see the tee i put in. the line coming out of the bottom port of the tee goes to the l/f wheel, the other line is run like factory, down and under the radiator, to the union u see in the second pic, and then to the r/f wheel. the line for the rear brakes i ran from the proportioning valve, down the drivers side of the car, to the rear where it tees off to each rear caliper.
