I remember reading somewhere that new rockers need to be tightened like 1/4 or 1/2 turn after the engines been running for some miles. I need to do this, as I haven't done it before.

What specifically is the amount of tightening needed? They are Crane 1.7, no noise from them at all.

On a race engine 1/4 to 1/2 is good, on a street car 1/2 to 3/4 is good. I usually go 5/8th of a turn on my setups to ensure they are quiet. I can't say that I have ever re-adjusted mine after running them for some time though.

Wait, Crane 1.7s? Pedestal-mounts, right?
If they are pedestal-mounts, just torque them down to spec.
I've never heard of
that new rockers need to be tightened like 1/4 or 1/2 turn after the engines been running for some miles.

Something's not right (maybe my misunderstanding).

That is true if EVERYTHING is still OEM :nice:

What if the block or heads have been cut

What if the hg used is thinner or thicker

There could be many things ... non stock ... one might not know about
on a car that is now 10 plus years old

The rockers should have locks. you cant adjust them the way you normally do during a build and then go back and another 1/2 turn. Your gonna wind up having all your valves stuck open. Set them at a half turn to begin with and lock them. done

Pardon me for being dense, but it sounds like we're talking about two different things:
The OP is asking about re-torquing pedestal-mounts after a few miles, if I read that correctly:

Whereas some of these posts are alluding to properly setting lifter preload during the initial assembly, which in my mind would be a different chore. Apologies if I'm misunderstanding, I have never added 1/4 to 1/2 turn to my pedestal 1.7ss after a few miles.

My Bad ... My Bad

Yes he did say ... make a change ... AFTER ... the initial adjustment

With peds and the typical hyd roller cam

If you did it correctly the first time .....

Like Joe said above ... I'd leave em be :nice:
