t5 wont go in

Lots of time, I have had trouble getting manual transmissions to go that last little bit. My method is to attach the clutch linkage, depress the pedal and the trans goes right in. So far I have a 100% success rate with this method vs a 0% success rate of using brute force.
 
Yes that works if everything is good and its just hanging up on the clutch plate not being aligned. But in the matter of swapping things like a t5 into a 60's car there might be other issues. Just trying to cover the bases
 
generally there is not a lot that gets between the input shaft and the pilot bearing where the input shaft of the trans slides into.

what is happening is, as mentioned, the input shaft of the trans isn't sliding into the pilot bearing. A quick depress of the clutch pedal while your friend bench presses the t5 will release the clutch from the engine, and the t5 is free to slide right in without the clutch pressing against the motor and pp
