Wow, sorry to hear that. Where did you get laid off from, what kind of truck did you buy and from where. What about picking up a beater stang until you get back on your fee. A mustang is a mustang and they all have their charms. At least you are looking forward to having 400 horses!
best of luck,
Doc

Sorry to hear that. There's hardly a day goes by that I don't hear about someone getting laid off.

I'm in the same boat as you. Luckily between my unemployment and my wife's job, we make enough to scrape by, but we miss a payment here and there.

I just wish people wouldn't have freaked out in October and November. They bought into all the doom and gloom and made this economy the way it is. They started laying off and closing shop when nothing had happened, besides a bit of credit restriction.

I traded the Stang for a 2008 Tundra TRD Crewmax, payments slightly less, insurance is less, but now i can drive it all year round instead of paying storage fees in the winter. Anyone in need of parts let me know.

Aye 'tis a shame all of the problems that everyone is having and there really wasn't much wrong, but that has been talked about. Glad to hear that you got a vehicle that will get you around at least, even if it isn't a 'Stang...

I don't want to sound like a dick, but let me play devil's advocate here for a minute.

I'm laid off too....for the past 6 months.

If you couldn't afford too keep the Mustang, why would you go out and trade it in on a brand new truck? If money is an issue (and it is for EVERYONE)....why not get a great used car and save a bunch of money for living expenses and stuff?

I'm not sure why people who are struggling (with or without a job)...continue to spend money on all their cable TV channels and eat out for lunch/dinner all the time and continue to spend....like nothing is different. People need to learn to make SERIOUS compromises, or it's not going to help them in the long run.

I remember when you were trying to sell your Roush shifter. I'm sorry you had to get rid of your Mustang. I hope things work out for you soon.

Who says a 2008 is brand new? You also don't know much about his financial situation. He could've done a good job preparing for something like this in the past and left himself with plenty of savings to cover expenses, and doesn't need to go crazy with cost cutting measures yet.

Skunk, I'm purely curious - if you used to store the mustang during the winter, how did you get around then?

He said his new truck payments were "slightly less" than the Mustang payments. The benefit here? He can drive the truck year 'round. Personally, I drive my Mustang in Michigan year 'round with snow tires. And as I recall, he tried to sell a shifter he just bought, to try to save some money. That to me doesn't sound like a "good savings plan" if you have to sell stuff you just bought.

But the point isn't to pick on the man. I'm without a job too. Times are REALLY tough. It just SUCKS that a man has to put his dream aside until who knows when, just so he can get by in this world. I hate to say this, but I think the "end" of this mess...is many years away.

:(

I saw your point.

I bought an 04GT 2 years ago for 13200 with 34K on the clock, one owner, clean car-fax and no signs of a repaint. I have taken it through two winters with the blizzak tires and wouldn't think twice about driving a Mustang through the winter. I think the Mustang, for my driving style, is a great winter vehicle; other's may disagree. I have no abs and no trac control, but that's what I wanted.

Now, if payments were a problem, I would have found something like I am currently driving, a new edge or if something more practical was required a fricken cheapo focus.

I've driven around in real junks, I'm talking about hand operated windshield wipers with barely any heat, steel floors, rattle can paint jobs, torn up seats, leaking windshield, while picking through garbage for scrap metal to put myself through college back in the late 90's., so I definitely appreciate where I am at currently.

I was given fridays off for a couple of months, but thankfully I made sure to have all of my cars paid off. This meant no family vacations for a couple of years, and no money into my Notch since I have been married, but it was all worth it when the sht hit the fan on my pay check.

So.... am I the only one that is making MORE money this year than last year?

Plenty of people are making more money. Anyone working for the government, such as yourself, gets a raise. Lucky people in the private sector get one too.

I work for a major international corporation that is coming off of one of its best years ever (no, not an oil company), and I was just told my raise was 1.7% for the year. Of course that upsets me given the company's excellent financial state, but apparently they only gave raises to those in the top performance category, and rumor has it some of the lowest performers received pay cuts.

Given the inflation rate over the past year has been much higher than 1.7%... I guess real tangible salary decreased...

My beef is the credit score system. Dont let nobody check your credit unless your sure your gonna buy from them. Every credit check lowers `your score.
Personally I would have found somethin used and cheaper too.
I'm a plumber and things have been very slow.
Good luck to all job hunters. :)

Credit checks have a very minimal impact on your score when used properly. An excessive number of credit checks will make your score drop noticably though. If you are going to buy a car, there is absolutely no harm to your credit score by shopping around for a good rate (this applies to all loan types - mortgages, for example, are similar) as long as its within a reasonable time period. They are typically considered just one inquiry. Any impacy will be extremely minimal. Now if you do this every week for 3 months... Then yes, it will have a negative impact.

Keep in mind there are also different types of credit checks. The type Fang mentioned are applications for credit. Chceking your own credit report, or having an employer or landlord check it, DO NOT affect your credit report.

OK i am not completely out of work (can afford a car payment)I just took an 60% reduction in pay basically is one way to look at it.. I got a great deal on the 2008 USED tundra and it lowered my payments, winters here in Maine are aweful and 4wd is a must when you are getting dumped on (12+ inches) during a snowstorm and need to drive to work...so storing the car makes sense to keep it out of salt and sand on the roads.

on top of my car payment was insurance which has been lowered now with the truck, The truck i drive year round. so my decision was based on
monthly payment+no storage fees+lower insurance+no need to look for a winter beater= much less $$ out of my pocket...Did i want to? No, i loved my stang and enjoyed every second of it but practicality took over and the decision was made.

I will get another job and i will buy anotehr stang, dont think this will be teh last of my stang buying days...besides who wouldn't want to have the new 400hp Ponycar (some day)
