351w swap into '99-later stang, whats involved?

I am also interested in this topic. I have a 94 Mustang that I converted to a 351w. I dont know about the suspension as far as whats involved. Ideally, I wouldnt mind going with a 99 or newer with the 4r70w. I would want to use fuel injection from either an A9L setup or the 94-95 setup.

There is a bit involved. Not to terriable but time consuming. You will need a K-member, I would get ALL the harness's from a 94-95 gt from a junk yard (engine, Tranny, Computer, cluster, and engine fusebox etc..., I would also probably change out the cluster since everything is electronic on the 99+ with an 94-95 Mustang Gt/cobra cluster (You can wire in all the stuff to work with the 99 cluster...just depends on the time you want to spend and it might end up getting a shy costly with buying little things here and there).
Just note that you will still have to do some hard wiring too probably to help convert stuff over.

You can run an 94-95 GT Computer and that would work good. But I would try to running an A9L. Better computer for performance/tunning etc..

On the Tranny (the 4r70w from a 4.6 wont work. Now you should be able to get a 4r70w from a 1996 Ford Explore and of course use one off an 94-95GT.) I would use an AOD though if it was me. You can convert it to a manul valve body (Cheaper LOL). (IF you were wanting to do that lol). You will also need to get a Drive shaft for/from a 94-95. The balance will be off if you use an mod motor one.

The brakes dont worry about. I would use the hydro boost that is stock on the 99 Mustang, and the suspension you wont have to worry about either.

You should be able to go to a junk yard are a pull a part place and get mostly everything you need and help save a lot of money. Like I said I dont think its too terriable but it will be time consuming.

Hope that helped a little

After replying to this, I found that it may be more work then its worth. I have a 98 Mark VIII and enjoy how smooth the dohc cam engine is. So now I am contimplating on the idea of finding a donor Mark VIII and transferring the motor and tranny from that. This brings me to another question.. Do I go with a v6 Mustang or a Mustang GT? I am not up on specifics as to the differences between the 3.8 and 4.6 suspension, etc. It may be better to go with the GT as it has the better brakes and rear end. Any thoughts?

I would look for an Mustang GT. This way you can run the computer from an GT and the harness. That would save some money. I have done tons of these swaps over the years. Nothing too it at all.

You would use the computer and harness from the GT? I guess I was thinking that you would want to use the harness from the Mark VIII. The transmission strategy is probably close to the same on both cars. I guess it may be pointless to buy the whole car for the engine if I go with a GT. Maybe just the 4.6 dohc would work?

Yeah u can make the harness work with the mark motor or a cobra. yeah if it were me I would just get a mark mptor or a cobra motor and drop it in. Done plenty of them. Its a easy swap.
