Thickness of the sub frame metal?

I guess that we need to get someone to measure their (unrusted) original parts. I did a bunch of googling and only came up with numbers for an early '60's Galaxie...20 gauge for the floor pan and 19 gauge for the trunk floor. i would think that MII subframes would be close to that. Of course must MII structural parts are made up of multiple layers of stampings...

The MII uses a lower strength steel but compensates by using quite a lot of it. The Fox Mustangs use more high-strength steel which is why the '79 Mustang weighs less than the smaller '78.

Thanks.
I guess what I need to do is to go out and try to measure it.
What I am doing is trying to think ahead about what sort of welder I might need. I know my little mig won't handle the thick stuff. Problem is I can't run 220V to the garage, I am just a renter. And I don't think the electrical in this house is up to handling that anyway. Oh, well, I don't have to worry about it today. I just do anyway. :)

Russ,
I've done sheet metal replacement on many cars and my MIG welder is a 110 unit and any sheet metal up to 1/8" thick is not a problem. There is no metal on a unibody car that a MIG welder can't handle.
Just make sure you use Argo while welding.
Good luck.
